Scorpion trail 2

That’s how I buy mine, I’m now using the full scorpion rally which is great off road, and not as bad as you think on road. My road tyre is still the STR which gives me a light off road option and nigh on as good as the trail II on the road

My feeling is with the STR tread pattern it will just get overwhelmed when pushing hard for long periods , a block tread can never perform as well as the tread pattern of say the ST2 or the CTA3 , the blocks become heated and will squirm around , the Annaki Adventure tyre is similar to the STR in a way , but that also gets iffy when pushing , took them off as soon as I could.
Thanks for the comparison but for me a more off road type of tyre is the opposite way I would like to go . Less blocks / fewer water channels and softer rubber will equal more grip.

Understand where you are coming from, the picture is of the full rally not the STR. I’ve had all three versions, if you purely want an smooth road ride and never go off road the trail 2 is your best bet. But by fitting my own tyres the compound of the STR feels softer than the trail 2 maybe this is why it gives such good grip in the wet and dry. I can scrap footrests all day long with the STRs and would happily track day on them. It’s a GS so mine gets road and off road treatment and for both conditions the STR is the best compromise. I’m lucky as I have two sets of wheels so the STRs are on my road wheels giving me an option of exploring if I want to, but if I know I’m going off road all day I’ll chuck the rally wheels in.

Never taken mine off the beaten track yet as im still ( pre lockdown) enduro riding , so the 250 exc will keep me happy and the 1250 scratch free lol . Your choice is as you say the best for your wants and needs . Happy days and keep scratching …
The pictured tyre does look like a trench digger as well , perfect for the GS

Got an M9rr on the front, but been waiting for Dealer to reopen to get the rear. It’s going on a K1300S wheel which has been powder coated high gloss black. Bike in for 12mth service on 19th of June when RS swingarm gets fitted.

Looking forward to the results and pictures as you are going the extra mile to get the bike to run in line with the new swing arm , fair play.

Wheel and tyre fitted. Had spin out yesterday and really impressed. Had Power RS before and the M9’s are going to be phenomenal once properly scrubbed in and the swingarm is fitted.

Well had the swingarm done yesterday. The lad who tested it couldn’t get the smile off his face. He said it felt like a Supermoto.

Whoever says their wheels are in line with just a wider rear wheel is conning themselves. You really need to check with straight edges from either side of rear wheel towards the front and then measure either side of front wheel. The offset on both my 5.5“ & 6” rears is 14mm difference from the standard 5” one. I proved that in the previous pics. There is a reason why the 1200 & 1250RS has a different swingarm. It’s to keep the wider rear wheel in line.

Anyway some pics. You can see the different curve on the RS swingarm whereas the GS one is just straight!!

Really fantastic, swingarm tip is super and rear mudflap gives me idea now for Touratech box, is swingarm straight swap, or must have work done first. :beerjug:

Haven’t had a problem for last 12 months. Wider tyre with 14mm offset has been on from new and haven’t recognised any problems with heat affecting the tyre. Gap between them is a lot wider now.

Very super to know, gives many things to try later.

These M9's look very good like slicks if you have 40 degree + lean...:thumb2
I wish Metzeler would make them in original GS sizes because with a 17 inch conversion you can't reap the full benefits loosing 1 inch at the front...
