Thanks !!!

Fantastic response guys, thanks.

I've got all the detail maps now so will work out a route - I think you're all right about doing the whole of it.

When I've got a plan together I'll post it up to ask if I've missed much or if there is anything more to add (especially eating & drinking place to go to!!!)

Cheers

Of course youve got to fight through heavy traffic to get there.
(heading north A87 I think)

I tend to agree with the previous posts especially regarding the beauty of the west coast. One problem at that time of year can be the midges which are a real pain so forget camping.

Agreed little bastids can ruin your night!
Get some "Avon" Skin-so-soft moisturising oil it must be Woodland Fresh fragrance.

What evers in it keeps the little bastids at bay. Its so good the Scottish Forestry Commison supply it to there workers as insect repellant.

Sutherland

A heard of GS's in their natural habitat on 'The mad little road of Sutherland' south of Lochinver. (The much superior Yellow GS is of course at the head of the pack with the black one in its rightful place at the back.)

Scotland

Gavin,

You have chosen a great country to visit. I have toured extensively across Scotland. This year am doing a three day tour up the East Coast, along the North Coast, down the West Coast and on to Skye, Ferry back to the mainland and then from Mallaig to Fort William, through Glencoe and back to Perth.

If you need helpwith planning routes, get back in touch with me before the event and I will help you to get the best and se the best of our great country.

The Trossachs

After picking my bike up from its 600 mile service I asked Clive at Motorrad Central for advice on a scenic route back towards Aberdeen. He suggested I trip home via the Trossachs and what a fantastic route he gave me. Highly recomended.

From Motorrad Central (Bishop Briggs/Galsgow head towards Torrance theen LennoxTown along the B822. Keep along this road to Fintry and bear right to Kippen. Just as you come into Kippen take the left down a very narrow B-road past a small loch and then on to Port of Menteith. Its so scenic round there and the road is empty of traffic. At the end of this road take the left towards Aberfoyle. In Aberfoyle a tanked up with juice and headed right over the "Dukes Pass"(A821) and here you are in the heart of the Trossachs./ At the bottom keep right and head for Callender. I took the left at the T-junction and went North towards Crianlaroch but turned right at Loch Earnhead and on to Crieff.

Thew whole area around the Trossachs is superb. I've never been there before and can recomend it. If you keep going up past Crianlaroch you get to Glencoe which is another superb run for another day.

Highlight of the Day was the fact that it didn't rain once which is the first day since I got back from offshore a week ago!!!

Stroll on Summer.

Oh yes before I forget and worthy of a mention was the fact that on the way from Aberdeen to Glasgow I hit a grouse going over Glenshee, narrowly missed a mallard on the south side of Glenshee along with 2 pheasants on the road from Kirk Michael to Pitlochry and had to swerve to miss a huge seagull that had been winged by the car in front (I don't want a red 1200 I want to keep it yellow). To top this on the way back a had another narrow escape with a pheasnt near Aberfoyle and had to duckdown to miss one near Fettacairn. The roads were littered with fresh roadkill it was amazing. The food chain was having a peak today.

Have Fun

Moral to all carnivores

With all Andy T's roadkill about make sure if you aint got your paniers on always carry a cargo net! I've had loads of free snap that way, pheasants, rabits, hares - might be a bit tricky with the deer in Scotland tho';)

Re: route from motorrad central, I can recommend the 'tea room' in Brig'o'turk just after the dukes pass bit for a lunch stop, stopped there when i had an 1100s out whilst mine was being serviced... top grub
