SCREAMING SCREENS

Hi

I have a 1100 and although I have had the bike for a few years the noise from the screen was really starting to bug me
I have been down this road many times with various bikes and never really found after market screens that work however I have just fitted the MRA screen to my bike and it does work, the best thing is that the adjustments mean that it can be moved around to fit the riders of various shapes and sizes.

I have just bought one and it doesent suit me at all, just shows how personal these things are, its for saleif anyone wants one £50 plus postage or collect Devon.:):)

When I got my 57 GS I couldn't believe how bad the turbulence and wind noise around my helmet was at anything above 45-50 mph with the standard screen. Being 6' 5" one expects things to be awkward at times...

After reading through the multitude of screen threads I decided to go for a Cee Baileys high and wide (22" H x 20" W) with the wind wings. It wasn't cheap at $432 but I bought it when the dollar was at its weakest and had it shipped to a hotel I was staying in when on a trip to the US, so I think it ended up at ~£200.

I have to say it revolutionised the riding experience for me. You do partially look through rather than over the screen which took some getting used to (and means you need to clean it quite often in the winter...). But I can now ride visor up at any speed and the only buffeting I get is when coming up behind lorries, vans etc. on the motorway.

Owen, I'd be surprised if you need to anything else other than install the screen and flog the lip!

Good luck, because as you say, other than that it's a great bike (although BMW quality leaves a bit to be desired).

Nick

Got the Cee Baileys screen (thanks to Gramps:thumb). Not as high / wide as yours, Nick, approx. 17" top to bottom. Looks well on the bike, much nicer than the standard screen, and works well too.

I could probably do with a slightly higher screen to match my height as I now have the wind at the top of the helmet, but it is pretty good. With the Lip fitted in a high position, the wind was at a similar height (not surprising since the combination comes out at the same height as the CB screen I have), but the airflow was very turbulent. The CB screen has a much cleaner airflow and is really quiet if I duck down a couple of inches.

I reckon I can live with it now, although I do plan an extension piece to see if it makes a further improvement.
