For those of us with an 1100, what is the common wisdom regarding screens for these?

I've tried the Givi and gave it away to Yosi - now have the Wunderlich/MRA Vario - very happy with it thanks but it may depend on how tall your are. The Givi is good but not for me I'm too tall .

To add to this..... After having my topbox opened by some thieving scunbag and my old "use for work only" OGK got nicked, I was forced to buy another cheap helmet.

Enter the £55 Caberg "Classico" full face helmet. Cheapo in thermoplastic etc ..... noise from GS screen turbulence..... halved!

The helmet is a snug fit and we'll see how it goes when it ages, but so far 1000 miles or so have proved it to be cheap and nasrty to look at but quiet!

The visor mechanism is not to clever, looking down at your bollocks as you are riding gets it to flip up automatically......

At least when I become a victim of crime again (and it will happen in London!) I won't miss it to much!

Cee Baileys in the USA for one of their excellent screens. Many do.

I have a Cee bailey screen if any one is interested. £80 - half the price and excellent condition .

It is the same size as the adventurer screen but the mounted holes are cut at a different angle .

Thus lifting the screen 2 inches higher .
It is also is two inches wider either side than the adventurer.

Due to the mounted brackets holes which are cut at a different angle , the screen raises two inches higher and the gap at the bottom of the screen increases . This allows the air-flow and stops wind or noise turbulence .

RickX raised some interesting points.

Perhaps the screen is not the problem. Yes it may masked by various designs, but fundamentally the problem of buffering/noise still exists. I have the the taller Wunderlich screen - which has helped, but has not elimenated the the buffering or noise. However, when riding with Touratech 45 tank panniers and tank bag the buffering and noise all but ceases. Maybe the beak or the front of the bike is to blame. Have such problems been expierenced on R1150/850R models? If not, then it would tend to suggest that the design of the GS bodywork is to blame rather than whatever screen is fitted....................

Ok, guys, how's this?

I stand up on the pegs of my Adventure in the fast lane and I get cleeeean air... no turbulence and relatively little noise. I sit down and there is slight buffeting and a LOT of noise..

So, as an experiment, I remove the screen in a lay-by (wishing I'd brought a cargo net or at the very least a ball of string) and stuff it up my jacket.

Back above 50 and my System 4's as noisy as ever (even with cheap ear-plugs). After conducting various shielding experiments with my left hand, I discover that most of the noise is coming up thru the bottom of my helmet just behind my left ear. If I try and seal off that area with my gloved hand, the noise drops off drastically.

I also find that flipping the lid open has an effect of drastically reducing the wind noise. I'm not sure what conclusion to draw apart the fact that I hope my future custom earplugs do thier job propery.

So what conclusions can I draw...?

My Tobinators have cut the buffeting to practically nil, but the bloody noise is pissing me off, I didn't get either on my RT so I'm determined to sort this, I've ridden a few other bikes and I'm sure it's the helmet (EVO IV).
I think I'll get the Ztechnic screen, then earplugs if needed. I'm loath to get a new helmet as it's only 5 months old and the wife has a matching one!

I've just picked my new 1150GS yesterday, swopping in my 1100R and my first impressions of the standard screen is that it is a lot better than I expected having read all I can on the forum about screen problems. Mind you I really suffered with the BMW screen on the R, helmet rattling turbulence and noise - particularly with my S4 so perhaps it's not surprising that I find the GS screen an improvement. ( 5'10" by the way) No doubt after a few weeks of riding and getting use to it I'll start looking for a replacement!

My S4 is now a lot quieter and even more so with the visor lifted. I must try it with an open face and see how it is. What I seem to get though is some backdraught so my backside is getting frozen!
Something I never suffered from on my R. That brings me on to the seat - bloody uncomfortable after an hour or so - just slightly longer than my test ride!

Yup, as the Monk says, the noise is a real pisser. After having had a quieter ride on the GSA with my noisy, old (..but beautifully made) Arai RX7RR with all the vents open, I am convinced that not only does the GSA create the worst noise and turbulence that I have ever experienced on bike, but that the design of the EVO IV actually exacerbates it.

Top marks to BMW on this double achievement! In honour of this fact and because I have already spent the money, both of these offending items will still be accompanying me on my RTW trip...

I do not know if it is distributed in UK but I can confirm that it works very well. I did more then 40K kms in 18mths and was good.

I have the Wunderlich Tourer screen. Works fine for me:
