My standard seat needs re-covering as it had a scuff on it when I bought it.

I know I have 2 options which is to buy a complete new seat such as a Sargent, or have the original re-covered.

Question is, for those of you that had your standard seat re-covered, what happened when you sold the bike and wanted to keep the seat?

why would you want to keep the seat?

pretty easy to buy a standard one second hand I would've thought.. given the sheer number of 1200s about. keep an eye on Ebay.. when one turns up - buy it.

It was just a momentary thought e.g. if I traded it in eventually for another GS or GSA I'd want to keep it perhaps, especially if it was tailored for me.

GS owners seem to be a pretty loyal bunch so just wondered how they get on when it comes to changing bikes but keeping their tailored seats?

Going to ring Tony Archer once this horrid weather clears up anyway and have him sort me out. As he's just around the corner from me it's very convenient and much cheaper than replacing the seat(s) altogether :thumb

If you traded the bike in and your modified seat fits.. then simply tell them that you want YOUR seat on your new bike.. that would be better for the dealer.. they'll have a completely standard 1200 to sell. (your old one)

I can't see them argueing.

you can expect to pay £100 for the work on your seat with Tony Archer.. +/-

But as I said to you before.. have a ride over so he can actually see you sitting on the bike and then he will have a better idea of exactly what mods will suit you... raising/lowering. or tilting the seat. whatever.

Funny how the obvious eludes you sometimes isn't it - I hadn't thought of that!

£100 or thereabouts is the figure I had in mind and that's at least 3 times cheaper than even a 2nd hand Sargent, as lush as they look. Plus the seat will be made for me and won't be an off the shelf item. It would be nice not to be sliding into the tank every time I brake for a change which I'm sure Tony will be able to cure!
