BMW have not done the existing owners any favours by flooding the market , all the dealers said that Quote there is too many out there for sale ,my last BMW !!

How have BMW flooded the market?

They only make the bikes that people want to buy with a few extra for stock. The GS is a very popular bike but I'm at a loss to understand why you think it's BMW's fault that your local dealer doesn't want to buy your GS off you for cash in December? :duno

Whatever the reason, it still represents shocking depreciation.

Stick it on here for 9k to 9.5k depending on spec and people I am sure will bite your hand off. There is lots of choice at the moment, adventure bikes are flooding the market. The new Africa Twin is only 11k fully specced and it seems a good bike. It will be reliable as well!

Part of the problem - if it is actually a problem - is that BMW are selling far more GSA's in proportion to the standard GS than used to be the case. This has left them with loads of standard GS's and the last thing they need in December is your GS gathering dust

Situation would have been far worse if you had bought a Triumph Explorer - you cannot give them away second hand at the moment ;)

Chatting to a dealer from down south somewhere at the bike show.....he told me there were 19 GS/A's second hand in stock and they are virtually welded to the floor. He blames BM's own pcp deals as punters come in with their old bikes and take out another pcp. Then new customers come in, look at the second hand machines, work out finance etc, then buy a new bike on pcp instead.

Can't verify any of this.....just took him at his word.

I think the main problem is that new-buyers believe the sales-pitch about "cast-iron residuals, built to go around the globe" etc, and don't take off the rose-tinted glasses and have a serious look at the used market.

Also, with so many bikes being sold on PCP - those are the ones which the dealer will take back in to feed the S/H market - preferentially. Other bikes, at this time of year - are just a liability to his cash-flow.

+1 on that tiger 800's the same (my last bike)

The reality is that there are now more GS owners than could usually afford a GS in cold blood. £15/£16/£17k etc.

These owners are now able to own a GS due to the proportionately lower payments offered by a PCP agreement. The resulting increase in volume in turn produces an increase in three year old 'return' bikes which aren't ideally suitable for a used vehicle PCP agreement. These bikes then sit around waiting for a buyer with cash on the hip to scoop them up. Anyone looking to buy a used bike on conventional HP will quickly be converted to a new unit with a similar PCP monthly repayment ..... the needle returns to the start of the song!

Your fault for a being a dedicated follower of fashion.. as said, new bikes are not an investment... unless maybe, you keep it for ten years or more.

But you'll still lose a bunch of cash.

Its Winter. Dealers dont buy stock in Winter as very few punters buy a bike in Winter. Wait until Winter has passed. Did I mention it was Winter?

To just lose 50% over 10 years against all the pleasure you get, its for nowt......but you have to use it, not leave it in the garage.

This will please JB.:D

A decent mint 1150 GSA is now worth the same as the OP's 2014 12GS WC......................Happy Days:cool

Seriously there's a 2014 12GSA WC TE, with 13k on it - private sale £11295, on ebay...............now that is a cheap bike:augie

Indeed, that is the PCP chicken coming home to roost and I've talked to dealers recently and they say the very same

Traders don't want to underwrite WC GS's from main dealers at anything sensible either

Hopefully Spring 2016 will reverse this
