Off to Koblenz on Wednesday from Hull to Rotterdam, staying in Lahnstein at the Wyndham Hotel with underground parking but no gates.
Bike will be left in P (parking) and handlebars locked as it’s impossible to move the bike without the key.
What do you think, good enough or do I need to take a chain?
Great hotel for Bikers (by the way) surrounded by great roads and Rivers. This side from the Rhine has some great riding, bendy smooth roads.
Westerwald and Taunus region and is less busy with fewer Polos than in the Eifel. Along the Rhine the Lahn and Mosel for easy day trips.👍

That’s one of the other great advantages of ASA… there’s a ‘Parking - Mode’ 👍

Good luck and happy travels 😎

Presumably you are stopping in places other than Koblenz? How about security there?

I assume that the ‘Parking’ is only some kind of fancy electric steering lock? If so, it can possibly (probably) be broken by the scrote lying back on the seat and giving the bars a sharp kick. As to impossible to move? Two blokes can chuck it into a van, in less time than you might think.

Take something, if only a half decent disc lock and, above all, use it. The simpler it is to use, the more likely you are to use it….. and don’t neglect the pound of butter in the fridge!

Enjoy your holiday.

PS There is a whole sub-section of the forum, dedicated to security for motorcycles of all sorts:

No. Parking mode locks the bike in gear when the ignition is off. You can’t shift into neutral unless the ignition is on. There’s also no clutch lever, so the only way to move it is either to lift it or disconnect the shaft drive

OK. Thanks.

The rest still stands. Take a chain, if it suits you and you then use it.

I’ve moved the opening post’s request and subsequent thread from Trip reports.

Posted a picture of 1300GS ASA attempt of theft where the thief tried to cut the shaft.

I use a BMW branded alarm disk lock which is made by this lot https://www.24mx.co.uk/product/abus...-43YrCUAitpyzO7ZtvaNE1fRiQhm-u-xoChg0QAvD_BwE

Have a good trip.

Last day today in the Rhine Land, back to Rotterdam tomorrow for the ferry back to Hull. Been a great trip on fab. roads and great food and drinks 🍺. Went to Ruedesheim yesterday to see the Harley boys at Magic Bike Week , thousands of Harley’s everywhere. GS 1300 never missed a beat, great bike.
