Sena SMH10 Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom

yes there is a boom mike, it is very small and shaped to fit within the chin bar.
it looks round in the pictures but in fact it is quite flat.

Just a question Dont you get two mics with the kit one flat thin mike and one boom mic ?

I will be placing a link on www.bikerpals.co.uk website soon when my senas arrive hopfully at a good price including delivery... as we have just done for zumo 660 with handtec see links.

Cheers

hi big d, with the single kit you get one mike and two with the double kit, but just one type as per the picture i posted.

Hi
Yes thanks I got mine today in post will fit it soon and give it a go
Cheers

Any thoughts if this will fit ok onto a BMW System 6 helmet? There's a slide/lever on the bottom LHS which looks like it might prevent the Sema from mounting properly. I guess you could move it further back, but then I dont know if the mic will be long enough.

This is what I mean:

Note this one has the BMW bluetooth already fitted.

Cheers,

Just got my Sena and it paired with my iPhone 3GS immediately and works well for phone and music streaming over the phone's bluetooth

Only thing I can't get it to do is fast fwd/rewind tracks as described in the manual i.e. by pressing in the jog dial and turning it forward/backwards simultaneously

Anyone using an iPhone for music streaming with the Sena who can advise on if/how it can be done??

Wait for the imminent iOS 4.1 update from Apple, which will enable AVRCP, the protocol that they've omitted to include, that enables track skipping. For all its many benefits, the iPhone has not had AVRCP as part of it's Bluetooth stack until iOS 4.1 which is still in beta. My old Nokia had this years ago.

So you're not doing anything wrong, you just have to wait a week or so. I've tried AVRCP on my jailbroken 3GS using a trial of Music Controls from the JB store, but am too mean to pay $4.99 for something that will come free from Apple shortly. Track skipping is instant and simple with the Sena. Of course I may lose my jailbreak when I update to 4.1. You win some, you lose some....

I'm no Bluetooth expert, but I've been doing a bit of research into the Sena/iPhone combination with a view to buying the Sena myself. The missing piece of your jigsaw is called the AVRCP profile, which allows the Sena to control a Bluetooth music player with features like track skip.

AVRCP has not been available on the iPhone until now, but apparently it is available in iOS 4.1, so it looks like you'll need to upgrade your iPhone OS to get this working. Alternatively, you can jailbreak your iPhone and install an app that allows this - see this thread for more information.

Note: I haven't tried this, just been researching, so the usual CMA warnings apply :)

Hiya Marky

well i fitted my sena unit to my UVEX carbon fibre enduro helmet , first thing was the main clamp/mounting bracket sticks out of helmet about 20mm but cos of profile of helmet rim there is no way to get it closer to the helmet shell, although its only for cosmetic looks that would have been better. The UVEX helmet was good to work with as the whole liner cheek pads remove easy and there is a felt tab which when lifted up gives loads of access for speakers.

I found the speakers a little thicker than the ones I have been weened on in all my years of Goldwing riding we tend to use a US company called J&M SEE http://www.jmcorp.com/
their products are very good but possibly a little costly, we have fitted their handlebar cb/radio all kinds of things so as i said these are really what i compare too.

Now that said i have never had blue tooth so when i fitted the sena SMH10 I was taking note of the build quality and i think for £165.00 they are great value....

after fitting the sena i then set about pareing it to my Zumo 660 which is brand new sat on my desk (as i have a new GSA 30th ANV coming 17/09/10) i have a box of goodies waiting to fit onto the new steed..... It pared up fine, then i Thought Mmmm iPhone i have the new iPhone 4 so i pared it up to the sena now then this seemed to take a long time and was intermitent? So at this point i was not so sure about bluetooth (named after a viking King) so they tell me?

Anyway without rambling on i then went out on the bike iPhone pared i tried music and it was off then on no control on joggle knob! I also recieved a couple of phone calls i could hear the phone ringing in the headset but when i pressed the rear phone button it answered but as i spoke no caller could hear me this happened a few times. So when i stoped i tried to mess around with it, and on the ride home i got SRV playing tin pan ally off the iPhones mp3 continusley... good job i like that track.

Back home i then checked it over, and found the iphone was on repeat track!!! that was easy but still the phone thing i had the wife (Bless her) ring me whilst i was strutting around with my skid lid on in the house! again i hear her call answer by pressing rear phone button, but she cant hear me......... I then tried to re pare the iPhone and again it was hard work, so I got a paper clip and pressed it in the hole at the rear of the headset, then did a 12 second press on the phone button press the jog dial within 5 seconds and Whoopee a factory re set. I then made sure it was fully charged and deleted it off my bluetooth iPhone. Re did all the pareing and set up again and put the helmet on went out and played music great! BUT NO track forward or Backwards with jog dial so Guess its a iPhone awaiting update thing.

I still cant seem to get callers to hear me when i answer the incoming call
what am I doing WRONG ???????????????????????????????????????

HELP

Big D :)

Many thanks for the info guys, looks like all will be good when the new iPhone firmware comes out shortly.

The Sena is a cracking headset for my needs ie phone and music streaming

Big Derek - have you checked that your boom mic is round the right way? There's an arrow on one side which should be facing your mouth.

You can set up the phone to auto answer, so need to press the phone button on the Sena. Look in the manual. I just say 'hello' and it works. You will lose this ability if you pair to the Zumo, as the Zumo takes command of the phone.

Either press Answer on the Zumo, or, if you don't like doing that, use a Bluetooth dongle from the Zumo (e.g.Sony TMRBT10A £5 eBay) and pair that to the Sena for GPS and Zumo music, and you will retain the phone's autoanswer. But then you will have to skip/play/pause the Zumo's mp3s, so it's a toss-up between the two.

If you do stream music from the Zumo, don't use music from the iPhone, as the Sena gets confused with two sources of A2DP streaming. The Sena can handle one type of each connection, i.e. one handsfree, one A2DP, and one intercom.

Yup, as in previous posts, track skipping is coming on the iPhone shortly.

Hi Sparkletoes,
I have the mic the right way with arrow on my lips! But here is the strange thing people ring me i press answer and i hear them loud and clear, but i sout and they cant hear me at all!
If I press and hold the big sena round tog wheel they can hear me i let it go and its off again!

What the FCUK!

Very strange indeed. Sounds like you are activating the intercom mic, therefore opening it up, when you press the jog dial. I'd try deleting the iPhone pairing and re-pairing the Bluetooth again. Another obvious eliminating question - your mute button is not on on the phone is it? Other than that, maybe the Sena is DOA and worth a warranty return. A real chin scratcher!

Hi
no mute not on iphone, and I have had wife ring me on land line but still I hear her but nothing from me at all...............
I have stripped the sucker out of my helmet now and its boxed up ready to go back from where it came trouble is just rang them and they are closed while 16/09/10 !!!!
That will teach me to buy online? No one there...... mmmmm

Big D :( (OFF BLUE TOOTH IF THIS IS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE IT MAY BE MY LAST)

Rang shop where i bought it from again and there was a mobile number rang that and the shop was open he had forgot to take his old answer phone message off from when he was on holiday!! So its gone back and another replacement is en-route let shope it works!

Those interested in the Sena smh10 may lik eto know I sent mine back mainly cos i cant transmit voice and the mic is the right way round etc etc. But also i cant fast forward or rewind MP3 tracks..

Here is the official reply i just got from them... I am awaiting a exchange system in the post here's hoping!

Dear Derek,

Thank you for using Sena products, SMH10.

Below please find my answers to your questions.

1) Track Forward/Back
Regarding using with iPod and iPhone, the SMH10 will definitely work with the iPod and iPhone.
But only pause, play, and stop features will work with iPod and iPhone devices.
The remote track forward/rewind features do NOT work with iPod and iPhone for AVRCP(Audio Video Remote Control Profile).
It is a limitation of iPod and iPhone devices, not SMH10.
Please see detailed information about this

2. Phone call
I am sorry to hear about your inconvenience.
Low sound may be due to using wrong side of the microphone.
If you look at the microphone closely, one side will have triangle engraving and this side the side user should speak into.
Also, make sure you are speaking directly into the microphone and place the microphone no more than 1 inch away from your lips.

Along with your finding, can you please provide serial numbers of your SHM10. Serial number is a 9 digit number after "SMH10".

If you have additional questions or need any assistance, please feel free to contact me any time.
Thanks.
