This is one of those things I'd never had bought meself, but in 2005 I won a voucher for £300 of kit from PL.....which was nice.

(and almost covered the cost of the bloody tickets that Booboo has been extorting from me for the last few years :D)

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had new riding kit and spunked the lot on toys- including one of those really overpriced (as I saw it then) BWM waterproof bags;

I've used it ever since without thinking about it, and it was only today when I started unpacking the Landy that I realized how good it's been.

It's genuinely totally waterproof......the very strong zip has this thick heavy rubber seal thing that sort of closes after the zipper, so tightly that you can't even see the split, and the zipper head itself slots into a gasketted hole and seals completely as well.

I can wrap my arms around this thing and squeeze, and it won't hssssssss air out....I really have to squeeze tight to get any air whatsoever out of it, which is pretty impressive in itself.

I've used it on the back of the bike a lot, and left it out in all weathers, yet it still looks good and hasn't been punctured or scuffed up.......

Last week, while reversing the Landy up to the trailer in Marrakech, I managed to run it over- i went right on top of the thing with a mud and rock knobbly tyre and three tonnes of Landy, and it didn't rip it or puncture it

I'm seriously impressed with this bag.......it's smart enough to use in good hotels, it's rufty tufty and it really is waterproof........

I 'spose it's like all Motorrad kit....bloody expensive initially, but it does seem to work well and over its life, probably pays for itself :nenau

Usual disclaimers apply...no connection, not trying to sell it, just impressed, but hadn't ever thought about it before.

Bill,

I seriously considered one of those. It came down to a choice between it and an Ortleib.

Apart from the capacity difference (in favour of the Ortleib), I was most concerned that if it wasn't absolutely stuffed full it might be a pain to lash onto the bike - because the bags shape and size is determined by the end panels (I've got a much older BMW roll-bag and unless it's full, it sort of squeezes the contents to one side or the other when lashing it down).

I do agree about the initial outlay on Motorrad stuff but you are right about the quality and the long-term life.

Another vote in favour of the Ortlieb. Picked up mine in a sale in Sweden. Top kit. I have seen the BumW bag, looks just as good as Bill says it really is.

There is this:

And this is what I got:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDeta...ain&CategoryName=&ProdID=5360007546&UberCat=0

I got my Ortlieb Bag from Wiggle some years ago now. It cost nowhere near £86... I get my tent, sleeping bag, cooking and eating utensils, stove, into the bag and some food if I bring it with me when out with the esteemed clientelle of this webthingy. Sits across the top of the removed bakc seat area on the bike when travelling and ties down very well.
Recommend it. :thumb

Nah, Hein gericke, 36 quid, looks the same as the ortleib rack bag, 70L

has been through some of the worst weather this year, never leaked a bit

i have the bmw one :thumb
i reckon it is made for them by ortleib.
waterproof zip is sort o diagonal across the bag.
ortleib with the roll down top seems goods.

Look in "Bargain Forum".
I have mentioned where GELERT 90ltr bags are on offer for £20.

I've got an Ortleib as well. and a couple of other roll down top types, but they ain't as handy.....or as smart if you're dragging it into a hotel.

This one looks as smart (If not smarter) than normal sports bags because of the design, and it's more waterproof (as well as less hassle ) than the roll down and clunkclip type ones.

It comes with some straps designed to go under a GS rack, and the shoulder strap thing clips off easily, leaving that mesh pocket for easy/quick access items (though obviously not remotely waterprrof....cos it's mesh Durr!!)
