service message, why?

Hi

I've not had a new-fangled GS with service reminder messages before so forgive this probably dumb question. It's just popped up the 'service me' message on the RID but I've only done 2500 miles and the bike's not 12 months old. Is the normal service schedule (after the initial one) not 6000 miles or 12 months or does it know something I don't?

Also, any advice for GOOD places to get the service done in the N. Midlands, either main dealer or independant (as long as the book gets stamped legitimately)

It pops up slightly in advance of the 12-month mark, or the 6000 mile mark I believe. Mine has the same message at the moment - anyone know how to reset it? (Yes - I'm guilty of typing this before I look in the manual...)

It can only be reset by a dealer or someone who has a GS911 service tool.

Yes, that's my understanding, but as I said, mine's showing the message at only 2500 miles, and is only 6 months old. All I can think of is that the bike was actually built 12 months ago and then dealer didn't reset the service interval when they did the 600 mile first service.

Sounds like a good analysis to me. I concur.

There should also be a dispenser for lube so it doesn't hurt too much when you come to pay the bill.

I really shouldn't complain, because I've had excellent service over the years from the dealer in Northampton. Top marks, great bunch.
