I bought a 2021 R1250GS from a main dealer in early May. Deal was done over the phone so I didn't inspect the service records before it was done and I took the dealer at his word. It was sold as Approved Used, with the engine & final drive having been replaced prior to sale due to corrosion. Last week the Service Due message appeared on the dash, which surprised me as I would have assumed that the bike would have been serviced prior to handover - that's been my experience at other dealerships. Looking at the book it was last serviced in July 2024, not sure why the service message didn't appear in July 2025. If that's correct then I'm screwed as far as the warranty goes, but I thought the service was part of the Approved deal. Can't find anything online either way, so maybe not any more (or maybe it never was and it was just the dealer being decent)

Running in service ? You say it had a new engine ?

If it’s not the running in service following the engine change, have you checked the date in the TFT is correct?

Warranty work does not get entered into your service book (just had my driveshaft replaced at 36k, and did ask...)
Service interval is 6k miles OR 12 months whichever is sooner so..
Based on your engine gearbox comment, I deduce that these were replaced in October 24.

Good point, I did wonder about that as well. I'm not sure when the engine was done, but assuming it was before sale then I'm still within the 750 miles for the running-in service as I've not had much chance to ride it.

That might explain it . Normally it’s 1000km which is 620 miles but a few miles over won’t matter

Oct 24 is a possibility, I think it had been in the dealership a while when I got it (don't know why, it's lovely. And has a new engine

Hmm, could be. I need to speak to the dealer, just wanted to check my position.

What about the service before delivery question - is that not a thing?

I guess a lot of people get put off by a new engine fitted , but as you say it has a new engine . !

That’s a negotiation point I guess . Some dealers are on a fine margin so can’t oblige

And a new final drive. And new tyres. And it was the cheapest one in the country at the time. Which might be why it wasn't serviced I guess.

Update ...
Yeap that’ll see you right for many thousands of miles
Update - spoke at length to several people at the dealership today, they confirmed that you were right, it is the running-in service. I was concerned that I had invalidated the warranty by missing the July 2025 annual service, but they assured me that it wasn't a problem as there is a minimum mileage for the running-in service and that takes precedence.
