Just self serviced my R1200GS LC, & got an OBD Link diagnostic tool to do a service reminder reset

Question, what milage do I input, 35,700, vehicle milage when service next due

OR, 6,000, miles to next service

Done some searches, can't find an answer

Remember to convert the mileage into Kilometers... and enter the next service plus total mileage in Km

For some reason the service indicators are in Km and not miles.

Don't enter 6000 (it's 9656 in Km)..... it must be the current mileage plus next service scheduled distance. All in Km

what?.. so if the bike is at 35700 now.. thats 57120 KM plus 9656= 66776.. ? I've never done this...

The bike is at 29,700 miles now.

The OBD Link tool readout is in miles not kms & yes I know 10k kms = 6200 miles (actually 6213) but previous BMW services have input current miles + 6,000 into the service record book.

I've just reset the service indicator on my Hexhead using a GS911 and I don't recall even having to think about it, the GS911 knew the current mileage (kilometerage!) and added the 10k. No calculation needed.

sure you do the same (or 100 miles before).. thats what I've done.. added 6K miles to where it is now and input that....

I'm using to Motoscan App... which only accepts Km.

What apps are you guys using ?

Oh ok. Sorry, as I've only ever used the Motoscan App.

Maybe it's a quirk of mine then.

Now resolved, :JB just checked, my Motoscan app, refers to service reset milage, however, at top of page, units are kms - mixed units confused me, not difficult

So current kms 47,600, have set service reminder to 57,600 kms

All sorted, thanks guys

You're welcome.

Good job I spoke up then :D

I used the motoscan ap and just enter 10000km into the ap (motocan ap actally defaults to this so didn't actually enter anything). The bike service due is a countdown value and will countdown from 10000km (or 6200miles). Check the service due in milage on your bike dash to see if you have it correct.

If you have entered 57600km into the ap to set the service reminder I think you have done it wrong! Easy to check on the bike dash. My bike is 2014 1200GS LC.

Well that's news to me, as there was no manual with the Motoscan App, maybe you are right.

I've not tested it beyond one service as the bike is too new.

So if it's a countdown, rather than a target mileage then how do you know for sure what you've set it to when you go back in the app? (if the App defaults back to 10000)

That's also not what this guy is doing.... he does it the way I'm doing it :nenau

Agree, no instructions with Motoscan
Have just reset mine to 10000 KMs, I shall check after next ride, if it does indeed countdown, as ian advises, I’ll leave as is. If no countdown I shall rethink.

Because you can set the mileage and date, I think the date is triggering on mine before the mileage. Which is why I haven't noticed as the service reminder comes up anyways.

However, ianm00 makes a valid point and it could just be a reset of the countdown. In which case, it takes no calculation at all by the user, just press the reset button.... that makes sense.

Motoscan need a better way of presenting that bit, as it's not intuitive if you've never done it before.... and can easily be misinterpreted

Mine should be notifying me shortly anyways as I'm at 15000 miles and it's due again at 18000 miles. I'm on a 4 day road trip soon, so will pile on the miles in the next couple of months, so it won't be the date that triggers it (if it does anything)

Ok this video appears to answer it, and ianm00 appears to be correct. It's a count down.

In the video a guy uses Motoscan and resets the service indicator at 10000 km.... and then does it again at 100 km.

The Service Until mileage showed 100 km on the second attempt, so it's a count down.

I'll redo mine on the next service.

Learn something new every day on here :D

Just the wording on this BMW Motorrad page seems to focus on the 10000 km countdown as well

That is with the older hex head bike its not how I have done my 1200GS LC. I have done it a few times and it has worked on my bike for me.
On the LC you can customise whats displayed, you can add the service due date and service mileage remaining to be available on the display via the info button. This will show you what the bike thinks! Mine does work correctly for me having been through two 6000 mile services resetting it myself.

Ian

Oops didnt see Warlords second video!

No that's cool.

I agree with you. So I'll change the way I use it. Cheers :D
