Advice please folks,

I've been asked to reset a service warning via gs-911, will it show up at dealers that it has been reset or just the new date/mileage due.

I know when I've cleared fault codes for people before, there's no subsequent record.

I would imagine the stealer will have a record of the date it was last reset. So if that differs from what they have on it they will know its been done, but wont know by whom.

My thought too but if it was done by a different dealer, as there are no central records, they wouldn't know if it has always been like that.

Think the main question is really, bike under warranty, can be a problem, as the do say bike must be serviced by BMW, and give you a stamp in the warranty book, or bike not under warranty then who cares.

NO requirement for bike to be seviced at a BMW stealer ! As long as its done by a VAT registered workshop using OEM parts then thats good enough.

Extended warranty, strangely her book isn't stamped for last two services.

She's going away for couple of months and just wants me to extend date for service due.

I will suggest common view is isn't worth the hassle. I did offer to get her bike serviced whilst away, perhaps she'll listen now.

Its an interesting one...

When I purchased (with 2 years warranty) my used two year old bike it had done 5300 miles and was serviced at 5k at 18 months old. So 6 months later next service due to the time factor which would have been March 19. By March 19 due to winter the mileage was 6200. No way was i going to have the oils changed. Reset the service reminder and have booked in for September just before my 10 day jaunt to Spain. Mileage will be 6800 ish and bike 3 years old. Then only oil and filter not brake fluid.

The brake fluid was changed at 12 months old - next one will be at 5 years old. Its just money for the dealer! and lighter wallets for the gullible.

Although it is 50/50 that they could still argue the toss if it was not a Motorrad Authorised Retailer or BMW Motorrad Service Authorised Workshop, is it worth the risk for a few quid savings, if you pay extended warranty, better to go to the dealer whilst under any form of warranty, after that it is a free world.

They wouldn’t have a leg to stand on in the event of a claim. Its the law and you would win, they cant hold you to ransom.

I think that the law applies to automobiles but not motorcycles.
