Service Schedule

Hey Folks,

It's been a while since I've been on here but with Spring approaching, it's service time for my 2016 1200 TE. I bought the bike from my local BMW dealer a year ago, which included servicing and a full year MOT as part of the deal. The bike has done approximately 14000 miles and from the log book, I see the last service was included BMW Standard Service, engine oil & filter change and oil change in rear bevel gears. The service before that was a big one, with all of the service boxes ticked, in September 2019 with 10,021 miles on it.

The BMW dealer can be quite expensive so I am considering taking it to a different garage, or doing some of it myself. Before I do either of those, I want to know what I am in for, service cost wise so I'm looking for a service schedule to see what needs to get done. It the service schedule published somewhere or do I need to buy a service manual?

Learn to do it yourself. Get yourself a GS911 and the Haynes manual (or similar).
There's nothing difficult on a boxer engine (even the valves are a piece of piss).

If you bought the bike only a year ago from a BMW main dealer, it should come with a minimum 2 year BMW approved warranty, Bike should be serviced annually or at 6000 miles whichever comes first, I suspect your only looking at an annual service which is reasonable cost wise, once warranty is up you can do whatever you wish but I would stay with the dealer whilst bike is in warranty.

Totally agree with this.

My last service was £210. Would the saving you might make by going independent or doing it yourself compensate you for your loss of warranty/

You can get your bike serviced at any motorcycle dealer , weather it be Honda /Yamaha or what ever, so long as that dealer is VAT registered.

That’s the rule with the warranty on a new vehicle. An extended warranty or one on a used vehicle is a different beastie.

Once it’s out of guarantee as said above they are dead easy to service

If the last service was plugs and air filter then it’ll just need oil and filter + FD oil, all easy

The Motoscan app and an OBD dongle is a lot cheaper than a GS911to reset the service indicator

If you have any problems with the BMW warranty then quote this post that has no references to any official documents whatsoever. You can then sit and watch the laughing from any BMW dealer.

MotoScan is great for service re-set but does not have all the functionality of the GS-911.

True, all depends on what you want/need to do, for normal servicing on the LC it’s all you need (no ABS prime deeded)

I do not think you are correct although I stand to be corrected. The Block Exemption legislation you are referring to did not include motorcycles and I don't think it's been amended.

This is an old article but the decisions at the bottom of the page state that the law had not changed 7 months ago.
