i changed the oil in the rear drive today its got 12k on it and it was spotless, i felt quite pleased but being an 08 gsa theres no need to tilt the drive to get the oil out but i thought its a good idea to have a look at the pinion bearing, im glad i did the driveshaft was covered in rust the uj's seemed ok but it looked a right state as did the pinion, it cleaned up ok though, ive seen photos of driveshafts years older than mine and they look brand new, so god knows how the waters got in

Blimey, maybe I should look at mine then.

the gaiter split at the gearbox end and the ty-wrap came off i had this changed by pidcocks i asked them if everything was ok idle f*ckers, home servicing and good independents for me from now on

Had the same thing happen to my 05 1200. Idiot dealers in Portland, OR, took down the drive for the 25k inspection and found a gloopy mess of water, oil and muck and some corrosion on the shaft. Much teeth-sucking and dire warnings of having to replace the whole drive. A few hundred miles later an apparent 'oil' leak from the drive had me backtracking through BC to Kelowna fearing the worst. Turned out to be a perished rubber gaiter. The corrosion on the shaft was cosmetic. All that was happening was rain and mud was getting in every time it rained and had destroyed the seal. The leak looked dramatic, but it was a mixture of oil (from the seal) and water. Cheap to fix, though we had to wait a day or two for a pair of new rubber gaiters.

.......found a gloopy mess of water, oil and muck ....
I wonder how long it takes for the grease in the (admittedly sealed) UJ bearings to wash out whilst spinning in this liquid :nenau

...and you didn't find any water or crap in the oil you drained out ?????

none in the oil, i did ask them to have a look at the drive while it was in bits, i had it done less than a thousand miles ago and theres no sign of any grease on the driveshaft splines just rust. ive bought a new shaft to be on the safe side
