Would any one know how, I stand on getting a bike serviced by a independent.

gs1250 needs it's first service. Must it be done by bmw. Or can it be done by a independent garage.

And does it or can it affect the warranty.

cheers

Terry

The EU exemption for getting a vehicle serviced by an approved but non franchised dealer did not cover motorcycles.

If you want warranty cover, BMW dealership.

I would contact your dealer. They might re open next week or at least reply to a phone call / e mail.

I think some manufacturers say if it's serviced by a vat registered business that uses oe parts then it counts.

I have no idea how BMW stand and I may be talking shite. Hopefully someone with proper knowledge will be along in a sec with the answer.

If you keep the bike outside of warranty it might well affect any goodwill repairs. I have had 2 different marques refuse goodwill repairs on updated parts which most get on goodwill, because of independant servicing. Ducati were upfront in telling me that is why they refused.

Looks like bmw for the service then.

Thank's for the info Guy's(rapid response):beerjug:

Just shows that it is a money making exercise and not a necessity

We all know the yearly service requirement is a money making exercise, so much for the environment, doing oil changes when they simply are not needed.

I remember that the BMW dealer recommended that I go further than 600m for the first service, but not to go less miles.

But - If you don't plough some money back in to the dealerships......... how do you expect them to be there, when you really hit on a problem?

Terry, please check first, but I think you will find that BMW have extended the warranty service times by 3 months due to covid19. I rang as mine was due a yearly service next month but have now put it off to August. John

The first service interval has been extended to no more than 1200 miles due to the current situation.

I would always get the first service done by the delivering dealer (sort of a post-delivery inspection).
Then go where you want.

Servicing by Independent

This from Motoscot website ...your BMW warranty is not affected by a motoscot service as I am a fully qualified Senior BMW Technician and use genuine BMW spare parts

Unless this well respected independent has got it totally wrong, service by a qualified independent will not affect your warranty

Let us know what the mothership tells you about their position on the warranty if non franchised dealers carrying out work.
