I have an 04/05 GS and have had it for a few months. When i bought it my entire experience of BMWs was to laugh at them as little guys wobbled by on huge bikes so when i pulled the brakes and the servos made an audible whine that made reasonable sense to me. The bike is so good my brother's bought one and he pointed out that other GS with servo assist don't make any sound when you activate them. The brakes behave very well, there's no problem with the performance at all but I'm a bit concerned about the bike doing something it's not meant to do. The whine is constant when I use the brakes and increases in pitch when I grip harder. It's not loud enough to hear when the bike is moving or running and sounds like an electric screwdriver. Any idea what's causing it and what I should do about it. I really like the noise and if it's not causing a problem i'm happy to ignore it.

someone may correct me on this but ...

I think this is a case of ..."They all do that sir." The whine is the sound of the servos being activated.

That will be one of these then :
1) They are not fitted with the servo assist system, hence it doesn't make any noise. BMUU dropped it around 2006.
2) The servo assist is not working, they will have very poor braking performance
3) You brother is partially deaf.

In short, if you have a servo assisted brake ssyetm, they all do that - unless they are broken.

My advice:

If your servo makes no noise, you need some vaseline.....

Not for the bike, it's for your a***hole when you next visit the dealer, 'cos its gonna hurt.
