Servo brakes

I was parked on a steep hill the other day so I had to pull the brakes on before I turned the ignition on. When i started the bike up I had no servos and had to switch the ignition off and start it again for them to come back on. Is this normal if the brake is held on during it's diagnostic start up procedure?
All was well after that. Just found it a bit worrying.

Yeah it's normal, pop it in gear, turn on the ignition and wait for the self check then you can start with the brakes on.

I think it even mentions it in the handbook somewhere.
