Hi Dudes it's been a while since Iz been on here 2yrs since my last gs 1200 was part ex due to me being pissed off with reliability issues 12k in 12 months I'd lost all confidence in BM.
The 2002 1150 gs I had for 2yrs 35k had no issues whatsoever

I went and bought a brand new Aprilia Caponord £6000 on the road with panniers,crash bars,center stand,1st service which inc a valve chk free
I was amazed at this bike it really is very underrated machine early models suffered from electrical issues and soft forks sorted now
I put a set of cans,sorted the screen issue,set of HH pads,serviced it and generally ridden it like a twat lots of sport bike baiting and knee down antics
it's been good fun

2yrs on and nearly 18k the bikes been faultless (er not quite had one weeping oil pressure switch a 5min fix) but I'm being lured towards new shiny metal I'm considering

or do I give Bm another crack as I do have a very soft spot for the boxer engine and wot with the new one's extra umph I'm tempted

Now I know you lot are a little biased so was I when I owned one and so are the other guys on the other forums of the other makes I'm considering

so my question is have BM sorted out the issues with the GS ie final drive,fuel pump controller, indicator switches, immobiliser etc

Or do I say fuck it and keep my Capo or look elsewhere

Hey Blu...fancy seeing you here

I traded my Cap in for a GSA last year and haven't looked back. Having said that....got a small issue with the battery at the moment but just haven't had time to look at due to work commitments. I hope to have it sorted this weekend.

The Capo did have a more sporty feel if thats what you're after but I find the GSA just as chuckable on the bends. The missus misses the comfy pillion seat. I miss the sound my Quills gave. Apart from that...I did 6000 trouble free miles abroad last year - compared to 3 recoveries in France on the Capo the year prior.

You should find some good 2nd hand deals with everyone rushing for the new model.

Maybe if you ask nicely...Wapping may take you pillion

I 'ran in' one of the origional Capo press fleet bikes when they were first introduced and there is one thing you should know about them............
They have ........A CHAIN...........Is it not hypocritical to discuss them on this site?

Well the 2009 models had there or there abouts the same issues as the 2004 models, albeit the removal of servo brakes got rid of some issues.

Nobody knows whether the 2010 bikes solve the problems, or introduce a whole load more.

Personally, I don't recommend BMW bikes to anybody wanting a 100% reliable machine. So it depends what you're willing to accept.

GS12 hater ME nah I loved mine to bits in the first year 12k but then it started to go wrong some issues were life threatening.
The 1150 I had before was 100% reliable but I lost confidence in the 1200 so much so that I had to get rid of it. 2 yrs on I'm tempted to give BM another try love the looks of the 10 hmmm I feel a demo ride coming on.

You'll only go and buy one after a demo!! I had a couple of years in the wilderness on a GSX-R1000. Tried every other bike under the sun and wanted to like them. 2mins back on the GS on a test ride and it was like I'd come home.

I have a comparable story. My R12GS bought in june '05 was riddled with problems. EWS(stranded), FPC(stranded), rear ABS sensor, gear indicator sensor, fuel gauge, indicator buttons (L+R), corrosion(replacement), but when the servo brakes went bust I decided to sell after repair.

BMW dealership offered nice deal (trade-in) so I bought a new one in december 2007, thinking reliability must have improved. There've been some recalls (I could do without the extra trips to the dealer), but sad to say there've been some hickups as well (rear axle replaced when new, FPC stranded AGAIN, final drive seal leakage). Now at 54000km/36000miles.

But I honestly have no regrets in having bought this one.

I would never tell anyone BMW is reliable.
If it's reliability you want, go elsewhere.
Ducati stands on par with Suzuki as far as reliability goes. Or go Japanese : Yamaha's new Super Tenere sounds promising, or else the Honda VFR1200 when it comes in enduro outfit. Both without chain.
