After 2 years with my 2013 GS LC I picked up my new GS on Saturday:cool:. The only difference between the bikes is the new one has shift assist, but I am finding I am having to put a lot of pressure on the lever to get the shifts especially down shifts with 5th being the worse:eek:

I had a quick shifter on my K1300R's, I know this works differently but I don't recall the bike I test rode being like this:nenau

Any one else had any problem or will it improve with use??

Dave

Is the throttle completely shut off when you are trying to downshift?

I likened the one on the S1000XR which I tested recently to a dildo - stiff and rubbery. :angel

They get lighter as the miles pass. By 1000mls should be easier. But as Paul G said, throttle must shut for downshifts and you should be accelerating for upshifts. Pleased with mine on '15 GS

Mine is really smooth and requires not a lot of pressure. However after a visit to my local dealer, when an update to make gear changes smoother was applied it was nearly impossible to change gear using the quick shifter. I returned the bike for re-calibration and now it is working brilliantly again. :D

Yes throttle was fully closed. Got a month until 1st service is booked so I'll see how it goes!

Mines perfect on a 15 GSA but my mates was stiff on downshift on a G'S they recalibrated it on his first service it's perfect now!

Sounds like what it needs, if it doesn't get better it might have to go in earlier than the end of August?

I reckon one needs to unload the gearbox to get a slick shift, so a closed throttle on a downshift, or hard acceleration on an upshift simply keeps load through the 'box.

On a downshift I roll the throttle on slightly after having it fully closed, and roll off slightly on an upshift, as you would for a clutchless shift on any "other" bike.

Works for me,

Phil

The whole point of a quick shifter is that it should be doing it for you, if you are having to help it then it is not set up correctly.

That doesn't sound right, at all. The shifter on my GSA is super smooth, and you don't need any technique, it just works.

new DME software loaded today.

brilliant. No need closed throttle to go down the box anymore.

I have to do just the same as lkyphl . I mentioned it to BMW at the 600 miles service, they said drop it in next week when the head mechanic is back from a course in Madrid, that was two months ago. A few days after ,I Broke my heel bone when a folding ladder collapsed :blast so not been able to walk since. I knew the shifting was not right, but it's nice to know someone else has the same problem and it will be fixed.

ive been told today by pidcocks there's been a recall on GSAP..must be the new software

Ooh, I'm intrigued. I won't be riding the GSA until September, as it's up to 6600 miles. Although it's smooth on the GSA, on the XR it's like a hot knife through butter, and can be used from 1st to 6th, and back to 1st, so if it's the same with the update on the GSA, there'll be a lot of happy folk.:beerjug:

Yes. I am taking my 15 GSAW to the dealer next Saturday for a software update, mainly GSAP improvements. I'll also get the CC fixed as it disconnect when trying to decelerate during CC uperation.
lol

mines very notchy taking a lot of force especially going down the box, i thought it was was the twin thumper engine not really suited to GSAP ..my panagale has it and its super smooth up and down the box

I still have the odd occasion where it won't go into gear smoothly, and initially thought it was rider error, so I'm hoping it was the bike after all, and that the update will make it even better.

Apparently my bike has the latest software but not great 6-5 5-4 and doesn't always blip the throttle on down shifts!

Despite being checked by Cotswold Gloucester several times, the GSAP on my 2014 is a real disappointment compared to those I has on my K1300s and S1000RR. It requires a lot of pressure to change gear using it which I feel is wrong and not doing the gearbox any good. I can do clutch-less changes in the usual way without problem so it's frustrating that the electronics can't replicate this. For these reasons I very rarely use it.
