Shift assist operation

I have to say that my GSAP on my 2014 GSA is so far crap! It will be going back to BMW asap. I bought the bike with 720 miles as it was a BMW employee 'company' bike so Im surprised that it isn't working properly. I can see why Park Lane were getting rid of it now! The gearbox is possibly the worst Ive ever encountered for being extremely clunky. Other than that...I do really love the bike.

Quick shift

Had same sort of issues But had the software update done my gsa te 2015 smoothed it out rides and changes perfectly, give your dealer a call get it booked in

Yes - A fine answer (probably a better answer than it was question)

Indeed, I wanted shift assist pro as soon as it was announced after having a quick shifter on my K1300R and as I couldn't have it on my 13 plate I waited until it was 2 years old.

Hi, Had my GS since march and love the gear shift assist. . .however it has packed in altogether so currently waiting for a dealer appointment to solve.

I'm about to buy a new '16 GS TE and I'm not convinced about the shift assist. I don;t recall having any issue with clutchless gear upchanges in the past nor with normal changes downshifting.

Bearing in mind that I've not ridden one yet (that's tomorrow) is it not better to spend the money on say, a topbox than something that is bound to go wrong?

But you can't change up without rolling off the throttle. With the GSAP you can keep the throttle pinned and snick up through the gears. The bike I tried had it and it so made me want it on my own but alas mine is a smidgeon too early in the build to have one. If I buy another, it will certainly have it.

SHIFT ASSIST PRO

Whilst ive got it (not specified by me ) maybe I'm just old fashioned but I use clutch  I think it and the new highly muted cornering ABS are just a load of bollocks really in my opinion:nenau

I added it to my GSA and really glad I did so, software update to come which sounds like it will improve too!

ive been told today by pidcocks there's been a recall on GSAP..must be the new software

"Recall?" how were you advised please? Had no notifications from my supplying dealer so do they just leave the things until you book in for a service which they would have no idea when that would be unless it became anniversary of buying the bike. Cheers

6k service on Saturday for my GSA, so will see what the software update brings

On my RT the GSAP is smoother after the update but the main change is that I can now downshift with an open throttle. Good for overtakes when you fancy knocking it down a gear or 2 with minimum effort.

No recall they will do it when in for a service unless you complain your having problems with it.

Finally had my software re-installed as bike had the latest from the factory, it has improved the operation but it is still not in the same league as the RS I test rode:blast

At least I haven't had to stamp on the lever to get it to change since this (fingers crossed)

Ordered a Streetguard Jacket in March which has eventually now arrived so went to try it yesterday and booked in to get the Shift Assist software update done at the same time.

Definitely an improvement, smoother all round particularly on downshifts with a distinctly different exhaust sound when changing down to 3rd and lower. I still seem to get a bit of an exhaust 'pop' sound and a small jump going up from 1st to 2nd so perhaps I need to refine my timings when to change!!? Overall anyone wondering if they should include this option to their bike I wholeheartedly would say yes, well worth the cost of it.

Bit of an aside, I saw the mechanic 'test ride' it out of the workshop 50 yards or so and park it up. I saw immediately the Auxiliary Lights were not on. When handed the keys back I asked the question if Default Factory Settings would have been restored as part of the update process, quizzed look from reception girl who went and asked the mechanic. He came out and asked what & why I was asking, when I said no Aux lights on now, did you save the personalised settings that were on the bike or have they been restored to Factory Default, (to me that's a yes or no answer?) I was told 'maybe' they have gone back to Factory Default and he went back to the workshop. So annoyingly for me ALL of 'my' individualised settings for Ride Modes, Alarm/Auto Lights/Digital Speedo displayed etc weren't backed up and restored during the update process. I didn't have the Manual on me and couldn't remember all the steps required to adjust them then so left and sorting them out at home later that night. Loss of Brownie Points for the dealer not considering this, though wouldn't you think that the Software Update would do that automatically!?
