Looking for a bit of advice ref the rear shock on my 1100GS.

I have narrowed it down to 3 makes,

YSS. fully adjustable. £259:00 delivered. Off the shelf.2 year wty.

Spoke to a few people about these and reports are pretty good. Made in Thailand. Until 7 years ago they were a budget shock absorber manufacturer, more about price than quality. Then they employed a couple of European designers who 'upped' the game a little bit. Now making a budget, fairly good quality shock.

HAGON. Fully adjustable. £299 delivered. Off the shelf. 2 year wty.

British made shock. Fairly well made, popular shock.

Wilbers ECOline. Pre load adjustment only. £329 delivered, made to your spec/weight) 2 year wty (5 if checked by Wilbers after 2 years).

Great shock, lots of good feedback, only downside is it don't have comp/rebound damping adjustment.

My initial thoughts are Wilbers, only because everyone swears by them. Am I going for the badge here? Would a YSS for instance do the job just as well??

Any thoughts??

Bear in mind the price of a hydraulic adjuster , the Hagon shock without it is a pain to adjust quickly on the 1100/1150 and i would assume the others are similar

I've bought a Nitron which has a rolling warrenty if serviced (I think) every couple of years.

Neils comment re hydraulic adjuster - I am without one and am missing it already!!

Have to save up for that bit...

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I forgot to add that I would never take a pillion on this bike. Its only for me, otherwise I might not consider the wilbers, as if i were to sell the bike it might be an issue having no adjustment for C/R.

I am enquiring into the Nitron as well, is that easy to adjust? also where did you get yours from?

Just throwing it in the mix but when I bought my wilbers, Paul in cork offererd to use my existing preload adjuster. Check that option out if yours works and you can do without the bike for a bit...

I got mine from Rugged Roads. I had an issue and Jonathan from RR jumped through hoops to get it sorted, including courier collection and return (to France) at no cost to me.

Heyyy smudger try M shock put it in google based in the uk and life time warranty they will make any shock for any bike and make a stronger spring if youre a big fella you know good luck aka sheene

I have got Ohlins on one bike and Wilburs on the other - the Wilburs win hands down, custom built for me and just transformed the bike...

+1 for Jonathan from RR. Great product - great service.

for my 1100, I'm looking at YSS or getting the damper body refurbed and matching it to a hyperpro spring.

I'd stear clear of the ecoline Wilbers. I've had four of them and found them to be shite. the fast response is terrible and feels like you are being kicked up the arse on every bump. I think if you buy the more expensive unit it has adjustment for high and low speed settings.

If you want the best then Maxton is the way to go. Cheaper than an ohlins. Last well and are cheap for rebuilds. They're based in Warrington http://www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk/

Hagon nearly killed me. Snapped off at 70Mph. They're cheap for a reason

I bought Hyperpro shocks for each end of my 1100 - very happy. Read Margus's opinions on Wilburs etc before you go down that route

jonathans away on his hols till wednesday but ping him a mail at [email protected] and he will happily talk you through your options .

biased Moi you bet ya i bloody love the Nitrons on my 1150 :thumb

Guys, massive thanks to all who took the time to post decent replies, this is what the site should be all about...

Well, I decided to go for a BMW o/e shock. I weighed up all my options, and the thing that swayed it was that the front one is nearly new, so I'd have a matched pair. Plus, despite all the things people will say about the o/e shocks, they are made by Showa, which is a decent shock after all and the one on my bike has done 58,000 miles, not a bad mileage for a rear shock?!!

Cheers,

Steve.

How much? I am in the same predicament having missed several buys on the site recently. Picked up a new front but still weighing up the options for the rear.
