My xr1000 is a bit chilly on early starts, any body fitted the breathguard or whisper kit? any other options?

Did both and it made it a lot quieter and less draughty.

Just changed to an XR 1100 - excellent upgrade!!

As a dedicated shoei man I am sorry to say that I have very recently purchased an xr 1000 and after a week released I had made a big and expensive error. It feels claustrophobic, as if its to close to my mouth. it feels like it is perched to high on my head and doesn't come down low enough. (like a women conscious that her skirt is to short!) consequently it is extremely noisy, and drafty around the Knees, sorry I mean neck! My ears also start to feel uncomfortable after about half an hour because they clash with the cut out spaces that they are meant to fit into. I have partly solved the problem by throwing good money after bad and fitting a breathguard and whisper kit. It is now quieter, and nice and worm in this weather, but because it is now so airtight it mists up badly around and over the 'double glazing' creating bad peripheral vision. not good news sorry. I think the 1100 will be a very much better helmet, and sadly the 1000 will go down as the worst helmet shoi have made unless you are only using it on the track or for a very short blat in the summer.

I have always had Arai's until a year or two ago when I bought an XR 1000. I love mine and will probably always buy Shoei from now on. It's the most lightweight, comfortable, quiet helmet I've ever used.

Regarding draft/noise: I just use a winter 'Buff' (the ones with the fleece section attached). Lovely and warm and reduces noise levels too.

Its funny how the same thing is great for one person and not so good for another. I am not a person that usually grumbles, its just to me the 1000 was not suitable. Like many because I ride every day you get used to being comfortable with certain kit, then when you need to replace it it has changed, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse.
My summer helmet for the last 3 years has been the BMW enduro helmet.(only non shoei helmet I have owned) Bits fell off, got headaches because of the peak buffeting. But forgive all this because of the fantastic vision you get - unbeatable in London traffic. Its HUGE so maybe thats why I find the Shoei so claustrophobic

March, I was thinking the same thing as I read your post. I know what you mean about perfect kit too. They change it and you think why have you messed with that then? It wasn't broken! :blast

ssray Sorry I was so busy having a rant about how I felt about my xr1000 that I did not properly answer your question. I think the whisper kit is well made and fits the helmet well, once on it feels like part of the helmet and is very comfertable. because it is padded it lowers the collar of the helmet significantly, specially at the sides and back of the neck where I think the helmet is to short (see post above) The breathguard is a breathguard like any other and in that respect also Keeps out the draughts, (although I have not tried it without the whisper kit) if your helmet is snug now it will feel extra snug and worm with both fitted, personally I think they are better at keeping out the cold than noise. But be aware that you will get problems with misting. I rode home late tonight down the A3 in the pouring rain and cold, my head and neck were nice and worm and dry but despite the pin lock 'double glazing' and the chin vent open, suffered sever misting problems, not good at speed in the dark. when I got off the A3 and down to respectable speeds I had to continue my trip in the rain with the visor wide open so that I could see. - hope this helps

Thanks for the replys, I bought a chin curtan and race pinlock yesterday, first ride was today at 5am,what a diffrence no cold face and I could see.
Thanks
Ray

I wore mine for the first time at the weekend (got it as a replacement for a Caberg Trip). At first it seemed a huge improvement on the Caberg up until about 60mph when I get a lot of wind coming up from my chin ontp my face. To the point where it's unbearable at about 75.

I'm thinking of getting the whisper kit, the neck curtain or both. Any thoughts from owners? A guy at work came in with one this morning and said he reckons it's sitting too high on my head, but it is as low as it can go and the gaps for my ears really dictate that. The only way I could make it sit lower is to change the liner for a thinner one.

Chin curtan is the place to start, had a warm face after 10 miles at 5am this morning.

I bought the chin curtain and the other thing that goes all the way round the bottom. I use the chin curtain for regular use (and it solved the issue I mentioned above) and the other part of the whisper kit came in very handy for a soaking wet, freezing cold ride I had the other weekend.

Now I'm 100% happy with the helmet. Fits me perfectly (that is, nice and snugly!), is very quiet compared to what I had before and it looks great :)
