Marion,

You could always get some H&B bars and roll on and off it, you have had plenty of training haven't you;)

Sister mi arse - did ya tell 'em your a MATRON in the real world!!

* just off now to find her paylsips then get my letter writing to santa done and there's a birthday before that too :thumb

Matron,
Why don't you give BVM (Stroud) a call.
When I investigated the lowering possibilities for the 650 for Rebecca I very nearly gave up after being fed a whole load of nonesense from all directions (even BMW UK).
Eventually the engineer at BVM provided good advice, provided the part numbers, ordered the parts and had them sent to our door the following day. BVM were too busy at the time, but they even spoke to my local fitter and explained the front fork lowering possibilities. Good result after weeks of nonsense.
PS. You were't the only one to suffer the 'Kylie cold shoulder'!
Good luck,
Steve

lower

Marion,
keep me posted on the lowering potential for the 1200. i sat on one, which was as far as I got (I was buying a BMW 12v socket for my POan at the time).............and well you my my inside leg length problem:D .
Unlike other here I think the 1200 is a crackin' bike, easily a worthy successor to the big lardies and time will show its a brilliant piece of kit, funny but i've spoken to several people riding 'em, none have been aware of this site and ALL love 'em, no reported problems etc..............go figure !!!!

I followed a guy on a 1200GS for a while on the Pan the other week, and had a broken conversation with him at trafiic lights etc.....................he was going quite quick but I got bored with the back end of his bike and had to pass him so i could get a view of the front .He seemed to disappear quite quickly in my mirrors after that, once we were in open country............... and I dare not try one yet as the end result is I know i'll have to have one, once the VFR, and the other airheads are sold then I bet I get one for fast road :D riding and the odd forest trail, should be a good option to the VFR for the road.
Incidentally Andrew Sexton 01608 730111 has just lowered my 100GS, shortened forks by 1.5", used 100R white power rear shock and footrest, the bike is much better now, handles superb..................and I can reach the floor easy, without luggage or Allsion !!
Andrew has a lifetimes experience of BMW. Has built many P/D bikes specializes in cafe racers, maybe he can help to in the lowering department.....................

The nice man at Harris Racing quoted me for Ohlins independent shocks....
front £395 rear £436....plus £100 for fitting and setting up the bike for me at their place in Herts.......(thats the whole ride position...not just the shocks)
does this sound a good deal?? [/B]

Sounds good to me... what Colour 1200 have you ordered?;)

who says i've ordered one........
...but if i did..it will be red......
,...and by the way..did you know that if you order after jan 2005...you can have the option of low seat and no abs at a reduced price of just under 9,000

You will just a case of when:D
Didnt know about seat option.. if buying now with ABS & low seat probably cost around £9700?
If ABS option will still cost £750 & seat £130 it's really a case of if u want ABS or not;)

ooohhh...i can feel another thread coming on

If there is any further info I would be gratefull to hear about it. Wife has a CBR 600, with a cut down seat. Thinking of a fireblade, but I'm working on her keeping the CBR and getting as 1200 so she can come and play with me. To be fair I couldn't have had my 1200 if she hadn't sold her 650, but I don't think she realises how good a 1200 can be.

I have just ordered my Ohlins from harris @ £371.06p and £336.17p plus Vat  richard said they would set them up for my diddy 10 stone short legged frame, they are approx: 35mm lower than standard but they can go down to 50mm. @ 50mm the centre stand needs to be chopped down but if ya strong at 35mm you may be able to pull it on :nono i will let you no how it goes.
Lyn.

Hi Marion,

I would love to hear if you go for the R1200 GS and what you do to it to make it suit you. I was also hoping to ride one at some stage... I think I just need to spend some more time riding big bikes.

Take care,
Kylie

There's a big bike that gets in my local , but shes a bit scarry , however she lets anyone ride her .
Or you could ring HAGON on 0208 5026222.
My 1150 ADV rear was 2 in shorter and cost £295 delivered .
They said they cover just about all bikes . :thumb

Mick Gardener racing Barnsley

Russ at Mick Gardner racing will do the best price and set up the bike for you, he's a diamond fella, he did mine when I put Ohlins on my 1150, he will build the shock to the height you need using the short shaft, there are 3 shaft lengths for the GS ohlins, and 3 spring strengths 110Nm, 140Nm & 160 Nm you'll need the lowest spring and shortest shaft.

Go and have a chat to him its a lot closer than Herts, on the uphill side of the dual carriageway near ASDA in Barnsley.

HTH

Matron don't know how your getting on with this but I know Ocean in Plymouth have delivered a GS12 which was lowered by 1", I think with Ohlins. Not sure who it was for but am trying to find out as I what there standard GS suspension for my new 12 ADV so it will be lowered by that essential 1" :D

if I do manage to find out will point them in the direct of the site to give us a write up..

Technoflex

Buy a Technoflex rear shock you can adjust it an 1" 1/2 lower. I only have a 29" inside leg, you cant adjust an Ohlins. technoflex just as good with better guarantee

Custard tart

Kylie,
Talk to Custard Tart and Polarbear. They lowered Lynn's new 1200 with Ohlins, they also modded sidestand. I have just acquired technoflex shocks for mine which are adjustable by 1.5" lower by turning one 22mm nut. so easy to modify deopending on weight conditions etc.
I have not seen the new low TT seat, its an interesting option but can mean uncomfortable on the knees over long distances, mind i'll look at that option. :D
