In preperation for my forthcoming trip.. decided to have the original 'rider' seat remade to suit me.

raised by 3"

Tony Archer, who did the work - remarked at the start how unusual this was. 'first for a GS he said'... today when I went to collect he said a bit nervously.. are you sure about this? I think its going to be too tall.

Nonsense... tis absolutely perfect. (being a freak - I can still get both feet on the ground)

before and after pics. (both pics show the seat in the high position)

Bloody marvelous job. £60.

Far better than the alternative... lowering the pegs. The covering is a tad more grippy, which is great.. and the seat is a little more level, which suits me fine. At long last my old tractor actually fits me. (rather than vicey versey)

Nice side effect is the luggage space.. now a far more secure area to strap the Ortlieb between the top-box and the seat.. no chance whatsoever of it moving. :thumb2

Nice job :thumb2 and a good price too.

I bought a spare riders seat with a split cover off here last year - you've just prompted me to get it re-upholstered. I'm not as tall as you, but another inch or so would be just nice (I've long legs and my knees suffer on long trips). What foam etc did he use - I've heard there are better options than the standard BuMW stuff?

How's the wind blast:augie I use an Airhawk which gives me a bit more room and a lot more comfort. I also have a very tall screen:D

Wind blast doesn't bother me.. never has. I have an MRA screen fitted.. last summer I removed the top part as an experiment.. and still haven't put it back on. I get no buffeting whatsoever. windblast? thats a motorway speed thing. I don't ride a GS to ride the bloody Motorways. tedious in the extreme.

Matt, He uses a far higher quality foam than the original.. however when I was chatting to him last week, he did say that the biggest fault with the original seat is that the cover is bonded to the foam.. and thats why it gets so uncomfortable. I can kinda see the logic behind that.

I'm 6'7 in my boots.. and raising the seat was specifically aimed at easing the bend at my knees.. and improving comfort. Over the next few weeks I'll get some idea of just how more comfy this set-up is. Thanks to Harry and his recent post...I have a 'Putnams' and sheepskin pad (from lambland) sitting in a box waiting to be added if that becomes necessary.. I feel it may be so for the outward and return jouneys. But.. I'll have a clearer idea of that over the next few weeks before I leave on the 31st.

Thus far though and with only a short 30 mile ride in the cold wind and rain to judge by.. I'm well pleased.

I will just add that I'm particularly pleased that I asked that the seat be made more level.. thats made one hell of a difference.. but as I say. this was only with a short ride to judge by.

I added 50mm into mine I am 6' 4" and flattened the top, it helps my knees especially easier getting from sitting to standing.:thumb2

inside leg is more relevant than height. I'm 5' 10" but only have an inside leg of 29, which is the same as my brother who is 4" shorter than me.

my inside leg is 36",.... ( I'm 6'8")... i removed the footrest rubbers and have the seat on high with a "putnams"... this works for me.......i still like the "line" of a standard seat..when bimbling around... i only use the putnam on long haul...

6'7" here with a 36 inseem its nice to know there is some normal sized peeps here:D:D:D

twizzle scuse my ignorance but whats a putnams:)

Putnams make a thing called a stadium seat.. its basically an inflatable cushion that can be fixed to a seat and act much the same as an 'airhawk' - only difference really is an airhawk can cost £80 or more.. whereas a putnams is almost 1/10th that. £9

ah good idea :thumb2

going to the Hograost Chad?? we can join up and look down on people!!

Great Job

Could we have Tonys contact detials. I have a Touracrap seat that needs refoaming (is that a word) with a stiffer set up. Would like to chat to him about it.
