hi folks,back in feb decided that i wanted a 1150 gs so after looking about found the very one! not even having sat on one never mind riding one handed over the cash and rode away! what a suprise i had install! now I've had big bikes of all sorts since passing test back in 76 (xs 1100/cb900/gpz900/tlr1000)and a few more but can honestly say the gs and I became best mates after only a few miles. I have never ridden a bike that felt so easy and relaxing to ride after such a short time. even went long way home and it was pouring down!
now the problem> despite the multitude of plus points, the only let down seems to be the lack of horses under the saddle. only 22000mls on clock and bog standard except for k&n.
have heard a lot about the 1200 being streets ahead of the 1150 in all departments but is it true?
should i spend a few quid on y piece/can/chip/anything else i've missed?
or should i put the money towards a 1200 couple or three years newer?
any thoughts??

It certainly sounds like the saddle/throttle interface needs recalibration. I have a special tool for such a job.

The bike will do 125mph, 0-100 in about 8-9 secs what more do you need for riding in the uk? if you want more in that department then you're sat on the wrong bike. The twelves about half a second quicker...

But then end up using the GS anyway
Give it a bit of time to find out just what it can do. You are probably going quicker than you think. I found that when I first got my 1100. It just feels slow because it is so composed.

having had an 1150 ADV, and now on my 2nd 1200ADV I would have to say I prefer the 1200 for power and handeling. However even the 1200 is not a sports bike, if you really need the speed or power then don't go for a GS IMHO. My 2010 1200ADV is perfect for me with all the power I need or can use to be honest, but if money was an issue then I would be happy with an 1150 as there is not a huge differance.

The 1150 is certainly no sport bike but once you have spent some time with it you will soon realize that it can stay with the best of them on the smaller roads and stay with all of them on the off roads.
Having owned both the 1150 and 1200, i would say never ride the 1200 unless you have the cash in hand to buy it.

Without doubt the 1200 is more powerful,lighter and has a smoother gearbox,but the 1150 is bomb proof and relatively simple and easy to live with.

I Wanted One...

....And bought one in Feb under similar circumstances to you.

I'd never ridden one, an R1150GS ADV that is, until I picked one up from the Fens, Rode it home, to Kent, and loved it. Commuted it to London, rode across county from time to time, and did a UKGSER ride out, and realised it needed a bit of work. I too kinda missed the RUSH (RSV Factory anyone?).

I put ADV shocks back on (it was lowered) and added a Remus Y-piece with standard silencer. Now I wouldn't go back to the madness of traffic light GP starts and have learnt to pass FireBlades on the outside for pleasure.

Stick with it for a while and study what the best mod's are here, and don't forget winter is coming, where I reckon it'll come into its' own soon.
