I've got a test ride on the 1200gs and 1200s next tues, I currently ride a SP1... Can you get the 1200gs imported to save a few ££££'s? Thats as long as we get on together! Is everyone paying full list price at the min?

You'll be lucky to get a 1200GS discounted. The most you might get is where the dealer throws in the heated grips (£195) for nothing, but they are not moving on the list price at all. While they can sell their entire allocation easily, there is no need for them to discount the price.

A friend of mine bought a 1200GS from Prestige at Bexley Heath and they chucked in the heated grips, but thats it.

I Suppose I can try... Test rode the new speed triple today, I wasn't impressed by the build quality or the lack of initial bite on the brakes although they were v.powerful..... Is the gs build quality good?

Do a search and you'll find out:eek:

Discount on a new bike................you're obviously new to all things BMW, it's not one bit like the Japanese bike market in the UK

Is the gs build quality good?

Yes, so long as it doesnt get rain, sun, mud, winter clag on it.

To be honest, probably not (famous last words!). The reason is not so much the bike itself, but the manufacturer. The reliability and build quality issues which are well documented on this site bug me - particularly for what is such an expensive bike - but what worries me is BM's complete denial of these problems. To me they are not playing the game. The marketing philosophy BM want us to buy into with the 12GS is go anywhere, rough 'n tough bikers bike etc etc and yet the reality is that the bikes have and do fail and have 'questionable' build quality, but BM seem to be refusing to acknowledge any of these problems (final drives failing? ABS etc failing?) - which is at odds with the whole GS philosophy. At least we all got our rusty fork braces and lowers replaced no questions asked when we had 11xx's! Ducati 999 going wrong the whole time, maybe - 1200GS, no! Have they learned nothing?!

I truly do not think that BMW care about their customers at all.

They can clearly sell every bike that they make.

They have no courtesy bikes for bikes which go faulty. They insist on sending a mobile technician out before uplifting bikes for recovery and twice now, when mine has gone wrong, the technician is a car expert and admits to knowing stuff all about bikes.

Was stuck at the roadside for 4 hours today whilst the dealer and BMW argued with each other over whether I should ride the bike or they should uplift it.

You buy BMW because you expect a top of the range bike, with excellent reliability and when it does go wrong, BMW clearly cannot organise a piss up in a brewery.

sorry - rant over.

Thats not what I want to hear if i'm parting with the best part of 9k!! Never had any problems from all my previous jap bikes... Sounds like BMW are keeping these problems to themselves.

None of the UK biking press have said anything about these issues... do they know!?

I looked at this last year, my choice of import wasfrom Germany or Denmark, the DK GS1200 was cheaper at just under GBP 7000 (I wanted the 1150 but they are no longer sold in DK) the issue for me was warrenty, as it would not be registered by VIN with BMW UK any warrenty issues would be down to the importer (me!) so I gave up on the idea, however if you wish to pursue this and need assistance with the language please let me know.

Cheers

I thought its a european wide warrenty? Surely they'd still have an obligation to fix any issues?

I did not check this with BMW UK, however I spoke to a BMW dealer in Herfordshire in passing and he said that warrenty work was the responsability of the importer and was based on VIN numbers, this was confirmed by another dealer, basically if the VIN is not registered with BMW UK then no warrenty, this and the fact I really wanted an Adventure put me off.

Having said this, there is no doubt in my mind that you can get far better deals in Europe than in the UK if you are prepared to take the risk.

Well test ride day tomorrow!!! 1200s first for an hour then an afternoon on the 1200gs, hope I can sleep tonight!!:D
