+1 for standard - but jeez, I can't believe how wide that engine is and how skinny those forks are!
What will be on the road in thirty years time that will make a VFR1200 look as old as this!?

Highest cost replacement is the stock pipes, If they're in good shape ( very doubtful as the rust from the inside out, check the bottom of the collectors) you're 50% there. Although Sankei have just re- run a batch & Dekelvic make nice copies. Lots of CBX parts & support world wide. If you're serious join the UKCBXCLUB, you will find them very helpful.. I can tell you what is stock & what isn't ( brake lines, tank pinstriping, side panels, cam cover paint) if you would like to send me more pics....
It has been voted by the press as the number 1 collectable Japanese motorcycle, original 1979's being premium...That looks like a 1980 "Z" or possibly "A" model

I really dont think the CBX will ever be a major investment collectable, Honda made loads of them at a time when the Japanese manufacturers were running their factories flat out and and stockpiling the inventory. I wouldnt be suprised if Honda still had a warehouse full of new old bikes.
I have been googling and first job is to bang on a Kawasaki alternator and sort the wiring which is a bit of a mess. I can knock up a mounting flange in double quick time on the CNC.
Next job will be a major frame modification and fit a new rear and front end. Probably fron a VFR800
I want to make a nice useable day to day bike for buzzing around, I know the CBX well from my days in California.
By the way the exhausts look reasonably solid.

PS: I see there is an all Ireland CBX rally this month will any Tossers be on it?

I was at a 'Californian' garage sale a while back and the guy had a mint CBX and an XS1100 for sale, both with less than 1000 miles on the clock.
He wanted $1500 for the CBX and $1000 for the XS
Shame it was the last day of my holiday or I may have had time to see about bringing them back.

Always thought they sounded rough after 10K miles with all those chains rattling around inside.

This beautiful bitsa got a couple of awards. Royal Enfield frame, AJS side valve v-twin, Squariel gearbox and a lot of hoime-made parts.

The one on the left is an old, unrestored Vincent Comet, the one on the right is a single cylinder Guzzi c/w bacon slicer in Army livery. The bikes were close together, I only had a pocket camera and am a carp photographer.

...but I wish it was. Saw this today and got talking to the owner who bought it new in 1975. Triumph Trident T160
Original wheels, header pipes and all original chrome except for the silencers. Apart from having the tank repainted and the seat recovered it's pretty much as it left the factory 35 years ago. How many miles do you think it's done?
