Hi

Is it possible to shut down your PC and make it available again?

Like say shut down at 11pm and be available at 5 am?
This is to stop others using the PC between these times?

Maybe a password or something?

Thanks in advance

Are you trying to prevent use within those hours, or just turn it off while you're not there?

If you want to turn it off and on again, you could use the job scheduler to shut down at a specified time. There's often a BIOS option to start the PC up at a particular time (that you can set), which would bring it back on again.

To prevent use, you need to be looking at access rights controls, but that depends a lot more on the Operating System. What are you running?

I am using XP .

I do not want anyone using the PC during those hours and only i have access to cancel the transaction.

Thanks.

You'll be wanting to do something like this then.

Make sure that you disable autologin, and set up accounts for everyone else who are NOT administrators, or they'll be able to change the access rights.

It might be worth setting some silent booby-traps that will let you know if the computer has been accessed out of hours, just to make sure ;)

AFAIK you may have to resort to a large padlock on the PC then.

If you only want to prevent Internet access, and have a "router", you may be able to prevent that - e.g. my "router" has a password protected configuration screen whereby I can restrict any internet traffic during certain times of the day/night.
