i have a 1150 GSA 2002 and ive just noticed that both the front and rear sidelights are not working:nenau

I've looked through the fuses under the seat and they all work - i don't have a manual - do the side lamps run off a fuse or are they linked directly to the switch?

where should i be looking for likely faults??

cheers

Also have a look at the wiring loom from the ignition switch.
It's cable tied to the LH side of the frame under the tank, remove the cable tie and wriggle the wires, if the lights come on you'll need to replace that part of the loom but leave the cable tie off when you fit it, it's what's partly responsible for the failure:thumb

Of course it could be something else:D

Did Sir check the Bulbs??

You might not have noticed one out but 2?............

Worth testing for a positive and a jump an earth wire to a clean point on the frame in case of broken earth wire

Yes thanks both bulbs are fine as is the earth :( there is no 12v at any of the bulb fittings??? Thinking I may just bypass the switch and just power the sidelights off an ignition feed :(

are the sidelights wired from the ignition switch? otherwise why would that loom be the cause?

I guess I should have just succumbed to superior knowledge in the first place- the lights came on for no reason, I waggled the ignition wiring and bobs your uncle they went out again!!! Now where can I get a replacement loom before I set off on Tuesday to Scotland???

:D:D
Southport Superbikes would be your best bet:thumb

OR

Strip the sheath back, find which wires dodgy and repair:)

I'm probably gonna have to have a go at a repair :( don't suppose any kind gent has done a walk through guide have they?? Or does the ignition barrell come off easy??

It depends on where the fault is, fiddle with the wire in a more controlled way:)
If it's in the wiring away from the switch there's no need to remove the ignition barrel to repair as it'll go into a multi plug.

If it's in the bottom of the switch, you're fecked and need a new short loom about £30 I think.

Removal is a matter of digging out the red paint and undoing the screw behind it.....without losing it:augie

Thanks for all your help, I took the loom out and chopped 3 of the offending inches off and re soldered ( neater than the original!) and job done I am now legal again!
