Sidestand 'Hoof'!

I promised JayC that I'd leave a review of the product on a 2006 R1200GS Adventure, and I'm as good as my word.

The build quality of the Hoof is really good with no sharp edges to catch my pants on, the puck is nice and thick and lifts the bike more than I thought it would. Which is great as I'm only 5 6" and weigh about 68kgs so don't have much leverage or weight to hoist the bike about.

The fitting was easy as...

  • Placed the Bike on the centre stand.
  • Cleaned the side stand foot.
  • Placed the puck against it to make sure it fitted (as Jay said he'd take returns if there was a problem), then made sure it RETRACTED and doesn't catch on anything.
  • As all was fine, I put a little paint on the bottom of the stand and left to dry for an hour.
  • Then I put some SILICONE Sealer on the puck and put it against my stand then added some silicone to the screw holes and bolted it together.
  • Then when it was all dry, I put some paint on the top of the side stand foot so that it all looks nice and CLEAN.

Time taken about 10 mintues with an hours wait for the paint to dry.

The reason I added some silicone to the standard fitting is that although the screws fitted nice and tight, I like to make sure that it's going nowhere. This could also be acheived by adding longer screws and drilling out bottom of the puck to enlarge the four screw holes, and then adding nylex nuts.

Would I buy JayC's Hoof again? Yes in a heart beat, it looks nice and it works even better then it looks 10/10 If there's still one left I strongly suggest you buy it if like me your short.

Lee

You certainly did and are Lee! I thank you very much for your positive feedback. :beerjug:

@ JayC no problems matey, thanks for making a great product, had the balls today to fill her right the way up at Tesco's because I KNEW that I'd be able to get the BATTLESHIP upright again...

@ Dave you won't regret it...

Already had to have help just getting on and off the bike because it was parked on a slight camber and leant over too far for me to pick it up.

The hoof looks so much better than a Camel Toe. Very neat, don't understand why Nippy Norman isn't selling them by the bucket load.

Greenman - The last Hoof is on its way to you, sent this morning. :thumb2

Hoof arrived today, thanks Jay. Fitted as per Lee's instructions, I did find that some of the sealant squeezed out from between the hoof and the stand when i dropped the bike onto the stand, and I got another quarter turn on the screws.

Very minor dressing needed to one plate to clear a weld on the stand foot. All in all I'm very happy with the hoof, the side stand is now a useful bit of kit whereas before I just didn't trust it.

Thanks for letting me know it arrived ok. :beerjug:

You'd think BMW would have robot welds instead of the inconsistency of a backstreet fab welder wouldn't you! :augie

Isn't it just a great feeling when you either fill up or get on the bike when it's fully loaded with absolute confidence in the fact that you can get the beast vertical with no outside help...

Glad the installation advise helped, ride safe...

Can I order a hoof for my 2010 1200gs twin cam when available?
