Sidestand mod on 1100

Having toiled through 24 pages on the subject....

As I interpret it, this will allow engine to run in neutral with sidestand down, but cut out engine if gear is engaged....

Is this as straightforward as it looks? ( and it won't be me that does it) :rob

FWIW I did it the simple and more brutal way. cutting and splicing. Means I could ride off with the stand down... but, in 5 years I've managed to avoid that by making it my habit to kick the stand up. actually this was a continuation of the way i've always ridden my bikes - with the stand up.

Looks like it would work, IMHO. Where are you going to splice in the bike's harness?

No need for splicing anything for what you did, just add a jumper wire in the side stand connector and fool the motronic as if you would have the side stand up all the time - this is dangerous and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Did think of this but I'd prefer the cut out to work in gear :thumb
Looks like it would work, IMHO. Where are you going to splice in the bike's harness?

I find it best to use a relay base to wire it in rather than "lucar" connectors direct on the relay pins. This will enable you to be able to quickly remove/replace the relay in the future.
 
Thanks for all the advice... It seems to have worked.... used scotchblocks at the moment, easily reversed ......the only issue I've had which may not be connected is that we took a switched live off of fuse 1... the terminals are a bit loose, and for a while had the brake lever turning on the ign light... only 1 flashing abs light, and no neutral light :blast

traced it back to the aforementioned fuse one back wiring... gave it a shove with long nosed pliers and everything seems well :thumb

The Neutral light is located near to the sidestand connector on the frame nearside just below the seat, so everything done from there, with the relay sitting in the fuse box....

Now sidestand down in neutral... engine will start....

Engine running in neutral, keeps running...

Sidestand down and put into first gear- engine cuts out ...

That's how it should have been in the first place :blagblah
 
Well done glad it worked ok. I know Scotchblocks are frowned upon by most people, but used where they don't get too wet I have never had trouble with them, also the way you have wired it, if any wire fails then it just reverts back to its normal working so no big problem.

:thumb Can't see how they'll get wet in the fuse box... we'll see how long it lasts.... great being able to kick the sidestand down with the engine running though...

It was a pain in the arse before :cool:
