i'm new to the forum and bmw's. ive got a 1990, 40k bumblebee and its not been cared for very well. i'm taking the gearbox out this week and getting it reconditioned. i would also like to check the timing chain and end shells and overhaul the heads. i've also been looking at the siebenrock powerkit. do you really get more power And better fuel consumption? is it a waste of money and would it wear the bike out quicker? reliability is important as i'm trying to get it sorted for a trip to india and nepal in spring. credit crunch allowing.

I have an 80GS with a seibenrock kit fitted about 20k ago. No problems whatsoever except it will pull through the redline in top gear quite easily. I'm not sure but I think I have the 80 carbs fitted but I do have a balance pipe fitted between the header pipes just above the bash plate (sump guard in english). I've seen lots of 80's without this balance pipe. So if my bores were shot I'd fit one, not sure I'd do it otherwise coz I'm tight.

I rode Migsels bike with a Siebenrock kit fitted. The extra torque was very noticeable and suited the engine well. I'm looking at fitting a kit on mine now my bores are worn.

Yep I'd agree with the power/torque difference. You can actually overtake other vehicles without planning permission. The fuel consumption is no better or worse though! Definately no reliability issues so far and seems to be a very nicely made bit of kit with stainless pushrod tubes. I think it's a bit of a cheek to charge x£ for it and then you have to pay for a gasket set as well.

Going from 800 to 1000cc makes big difference...not a lot more going from 1000cc with the Siebenrock power kit.

If going on a long trip...get that driveshaft rebuilt and the valves/guides replaced. I wouldn't bother with the Sienbenrock kit on a 1000cc.

Mines got one and on my only little run out so far down to Proffs it does seem to have the power there when you want it.

thanks allot for you replies, i think i'll be staying with the standard set up then. spend the money on a silencer. thankyou for your help.

can you rebuild the shaft then? if it can where and how much? i've been told it cant be done.

so the bearings a sealed and replaceable? if so anyone know how much hassle to replace the bearings?

The standard shaft does not have replaceable bearings.

These guys do a replacement shaft that has replaceable bearings:

Cost is a shade under £300 (plus postage from Holland).

I don't have one so can't comment on it. I have had other stuff from them though and it is good quality.

Bob.
