have stripped barrel from crankcase, does anything remove silicon, i'm reluctant to scrape the surfaces, incidently i noticed the barrel didn't appear to have a liner, is this the norm now?. cheers,

cylinder base i'm guessing? shouldn't be silicone i'd have thought. probably flange sealer of some kind. scrape with a proper scraper. carefully. perhaps with a bit of brake cleaner :)

no liner is common now. being made of similar material, means the piston & bore should expand at similar rate, enabling tighter clearances.

Ask Pamela Anderson about silicon removal - i've just sent her a TX for you

If it is silicon and not some high tech compound then white spirit will break it down. It doesn't dissolve just comes away in small pieces.

I've just had to remove a load of silicone sealant from my skirting board after lifting a laminate floor. I used a product called De-Solv-It sealant removal kit. I got it from Wilkinsons (think they are nationwide). It was £3.99. Remove as much as you can with with a knife or scraper. Paint on the solution. Leave for 10 mins and scrape the rest off with the plastic scraper provided. Don't know if this is suitable for your job, but you never know.
