What size front tyre does a 1200GS have?

According to a bike mag I have it is a 120/70/17 I thought these bikes had big front hoops?

I am looking at a 2008 model tomorrow, but just impatient to look up tyre prices.

Any views on decent sport-touring type tyres appreciated, although as I have really loved Roadsmarts on my last bike these look favourite to me and I am looming forward to much better milegaes than I am used to :thumb2

Hi Rasher, I'm going to pop this thread over to the 1200 section of the forum where I think you'll get a better response than here in the newbie section.

:)

110/80V19 Front & 150/70V17 Rear.

Tyre choice is personal to your riding style.

On my 06 ADV, I've used Metzeler Tourance, Conti Road attacks and Trail attacks, I ride 365 in all weathers, and ride the wheels off it, never had a problem with any of em.

I ride 365 too MadMax.always got aroung 6500 miles from Battleaxe 021's. Just fitting a pair of 023's to my Pan ~Euro. I got 10,000 out of my first Tourance rear on the GSA, and 16,000 from the front, well impressed as that means 2.5 tyres per year instead of 4 sets.
What did you get from the Conti Road attacks and Trail attacks?
Mine always flat off due to high motorway miles, probably 75% of my riding.

I've got just over 6K miles on my Trail Attacks and there looks like there might be another 1K left in them :augie

Mind you, I ride like a wuss :rob

Best regards Stretch :D:D

Hi Gary
Believe it or not I'm on my 3rd full set plus 3 rear skins this year.
Conti's have been returning around 3.5k for a rear (2 to 1 front) can't fault the grip in wet or dry, I do ride hard and fast.
I have fitted a pair of tourance today for winter and to get back to a more realistic mileage return, although I still haven't got near your figures.
Regards, Martyn

Roadsmarts were ace on my 1200GSA - quick to turn in, predictable and excellent grip wet or dry. 4.5K on the rears for me though so don't expect huge mileage's. I have had Battlewings (OK) before and now I'm trying Trail Attacks (also OK but they are very slow to turn in comparison to the Dunlop's). Will go back to Roadsmarts when I need a pair.

Oooh, can get just over 4k on Roadsmart with the ZZR so was hoping to do a bit better and maybe hit 5k to a rear.

Though from the ZZR forum I found people's mileages varied hugely, I got about 1500 from OE (and useless) BT-014's, some owners managed less than 1k, whilst at the other end of the scale people were reporting past 6k, though I did wonder if some had not yet discovered it had an internal combustion engine as standard and were just pushing it everywhere.

Not too bothered for now as I have to get used to it and won't do a lot of miles over the winter, just hoping it has not got really rubbish boots on.

Are trailwings any good, especially nearly worn out squared off ones?

I thought not, so phoned my "tyre man" who pointed out although road tyres work well on the GS they can look odd and the "dual sport" type tyres tend to look better, leaving one question...

Are the Tourance EXP and D607's top of the pile for predominantly road work?

And where does the new TR91 sit, is this more a dirt tyre, I have tended to like Dunlops in many forms over the years and prices are normally quite reasonable.

Did get a price on the EXP's and they were a bit, err, premium!

Bike mag Suoer Tenere/Multistarda/GS review last month did quote the GS as having a 17" front boot. Just goes to show a spell check doesn't pick up all mistakes. I have just been checking my 12 year old daughters science homework where she refers to arousal spray:eek:. Turns out she meant aerosol spray.

Tourances for me everytime, and if theBattleaxe 023's dont give over 6k on the Pan Euro I'll fit tourances to that too.

Know the local tyre man who will sort me a good deal, think I will try new tourances as Ninjabiker had exact same 1400 setup as me so if he likes them I expect I will do.

Suppose you dirty types will tell me there no good off-road, but as my linit for now will be hard, dry gravel tracks they should be fine.
