I'm going to appear stupid but I'm currently rebuilding my 1100GS which I've never actually used. Does the clutch switch stop the engine running or does it only inhibit the starter operation? I've removed a very old spyball alarm - for obvious reasons - and thought I'd put in a manual switch, suitably hidden.

Before you suggest I rtfm, I don't have an owner's handbook (does anyone have any links?), my Clymer wiring diagram isn't detailed enough, and the factory manual linked from this site doesn't have wiring diagrams.

Clutch inhibits starter when in gear, side stand inhibits engine (at least on my 1150) - I'm pretty sure the engine dies as soon as I put it in gear with the stand down, not as I release the clutch. I thought they were separate systems protecting against different mistakes?

[Edit - sorry, just realised that you have an 1100, not an 1150 - my wiring manual is for the 1150. There is a difference - the 1150 will run with the side stand down, the 1100 won't, so the circuit you're interested in will be different.]
