Simple, NO COST servo removal of 1150 IABS system

lol, erm, so, I guess I shouldn't cut the wires then!!!! Thanks Flipfly, I'll go finish it off!

Re the connectors, I have worked out the problem and have ordered a replacement part... should be with me Thursday! Now I know it's there, I'll hopefully remember to disconnect it next time (if there is one) that I remove the tank.

DO NOT cut the wires!!!!!

It's very simple to split the electrical box, disconnect it from the pump and put it all back together without disturbing the wiring!!

FFS why make it hard for yourself. doing it without cutting means your brake lights all work and someone can return it back to ABS if they are crazy enough to later on.

I did remove the pump and make a plate to seal the electrics in, but you can just screw it all back together and leave the wiring disconnected if you choose.

I'm struggling to work out the connectors on your's because the pic isn't brilliant, but they don't look quite right, probably replaced in the past with a different type to the standard ones (or maybe the pic is just bad. The connector is only there on the ADV tank and it is normally tucked away. If you had to wrench the tank off then it's likely you fecked the connector as the tank should slip off easily once these connectors (3 in all) are undone (along with the 2 breather pipes and the fuel gauge sender wiring block.

Make sure you have the back grommet thingy off the back of the rubber bush that the tank bolt sits through. If you don't you will crush the frame tangs when you tighten up the tank and that's baf form. The back of the rubber bush has fallen off every GS I've ever owned and tends to lodge somewhere really inconvenient or fecks off at 900mph across the garage floor and underneath an object which takes an hour to shift so that you can retrieve said silly round piece of shite rubber bastard :D

DO NOT CUT ANY WIRES!!!!!!

Sorry, but it was worth repeating
:thumb

Don't fight it... just let them get on with it.

Well, I must report back that all is good in the Ph garage. Followed instructions re wiring and now have all up and running. Just need some pixie fingered assistant to pull power from flashing brake warning LED! Cheers once again folks.

iABS eletrical portion

For those that removed their iABS (me included) and kept the electrical portion (as you should) there is really no good way to mount the control unit, (that I found) and it stays open to the elements.(vibration, heat, water intrusion, baby spiders)
My fix was duct tape and zip ties, but it always bothered me since it is really not a long term solution.
I couldn't find any pictures of the final placement anywhere online.

Here is what I came up with.

I have two bikes with the iABS removed, both needing the speedometer signal, (Rockster and R1200CLC)so relay option was not an option anyway.
I believe that battery bracket geometry is the same for all R bikes.
Open to suggestions.

Hi guys - new to the forum - Thanks for the great thread - but could someone point me to this "Start with removal of the servo system itself together with redundant metal pipework - been documented on here numerous times and is relatively straightforward." - Thanks

Healthy servo removed today as I can't live with linked brakes anymore !

Thanks to all the boffins with large fore heads who worked out the easiest way to do the deed :beerjug:

I'm working in a bike that had the wiring harness fried by previous owner when removing the servo. Before I do the mod recommended here I want to verify one more time that the wiring instructions are right as I done have the servo unit. Has anyone followed these instructions recently? Sorry for being paranoid.

When you say fried, are you replacing the loom or trying to repair it?

The cutting wires method works, but it's way more complicated than it needs to be. If you haven't got the pumps brains though you don't have much choice unless you can find an old knackered pump with the brains intact.

Very tempted to do this on a working servo fitted to a 2004 1150gsa

Nah Just keep doing "full" brake fluid changes annually and It'll be fine!

Hard to beat the ABS when It working correctly Of Course the first time a servo one skips a beat Mine will be out

That will do!

I have the servoectmy saved onto my phone for any future 'at the roadside/ holiday' issues

I'm happy the way it works but there is always that niggle, you know the one

Fluid changed annually along with clutch fluid

Cheers

I present this one to back me up Hutchy! LINKY

P.S. If you have this schit whilst away Unscrew electrics box from Servo

Snip the servo power wires off and seal the elecky box up someway from water intrusion

The repipe the front and rear pipes direct to the master cylinders and remove the ABS bulbs from their holders

Jobs Done

Whilst this method is good its also laborious and you can't reinstate an ABS system without a whole shitload of grief

Holy Shite stains to that linky! !!!

Close call is kind of an understatement ......

Thanks for the abs holiday tip, saved to the phone :)

I actually like the abs tbh, in fact I don't really want to alter the bike in any way, I like it to ba as original as possible including the servo.

if it dies it's gone becuase it's too much money to replace but ill keep it until that time comes

Cheers DrF

Great article on removing ABS i decided to have a go as all my warning lights were flashing and no brakes. Surprised it has been so easy so far but just a little lost on my next step do i cut the (only kidding:rob)seperated the electrics but do i pull all wiring of the circuit board on the pump side ? And replug big multi plug back in and jobs a good un ? Thanks and glad i paid my subs

Sorry went in for a cuppa and post last message. Having returned thought come this far might aswell just unplug all of the circuit board put battery back on and brake lights front and back working as they should as article said ! brakes again and one of the easiest and cheapest solution's, made up with it . Thanks again

You will never guess what happened today!!!!!!!

Abs light flashing constantly
Warning light below is solid on

Ignition on self test

Servo whining like a pig and remains on when back brake applied and even when released

Nothing from the servo when front brake applied until the back brake gets the servo going????

IS IT TIME?????
