Site glass melting

Has anyone heard this before?

It seems that there has been some catastrophic failures if an owner starts the bike and leaves the bike running for some time. The heat may melt the site glass blowing hot oil all over the header. Also the site glass is press fit , nothing holding them but the seal.

Has this happen to anyone? and if so is there a fix for it?

Melting?

Not heard of them melting, however they are push-fit only so have a tendancy to pop out occassionally.

You might want to read through this thread on the Advrider site. Oil-glass failure might have been involved, but then again, leaving an aircooled bike running on fast idle unattended for many minutes could have brought on all sorts of problems!
