Slave Cylinder

After reading a few older threads worked out my slave cylinder had gone. After a bit o fiddling I got the 3 bolts out but the slave cylinder won't shift. Even with my wee hands I'm struggling to get a grip on it. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and any tips on removal. Unfortunately I'm in a lockup in Caithness and not my own garage so limited on tools!!

It just pulls away from the gearbox. It maybe stuck in place with the gasket. Give it a clump to free it off.
 
Cheers Steptoe, clumping worked finally :thumby: I take it this the mess a fooked slave cylinder leaves!!

What would you expect from a fitment designed by a firm that makes accessories for push-bikes. Magura is their name.
The BMW 'designer' [ I use the term loosely ] of the hydraulic clutch actuation mechanism fitted to all 6-speed oilhead Boxers should hang his head in shame. Claiming lack of space he chose this puny under-specc'ed push-bike item which fails for fun, soaking your problematic failure-prone dry clutch in sludgey gunge.
Notice that all new Boxers have quietly been fitted with a Chinese outsourced wet clutch. Enough said.

Mmm mines been ok for the last 104,000 miles so can't be too far under spec.

I think Magura have been producing bike components since at least the 1960's - long before Mountain Bike came into existence

Amazing - Jeff in Tynemouth has had the same slave cylinder with no problemas for the past hundred-odd thousand miles...yet mine on a previous 1100S splurged juice on the friction plate at less than ten thousand. Chris Harris in New Hampshire says he's replaced around thirty of 'em after failure of the original fitment. There's no law, is there ?
I've been trying for the past few months to persuade my pal with an 1150 GS Adventure to pull the rear end back to get at the cylinder in order to check it. He's saying "Why should I ?"
Maybe he's right, then...

Same clutch & final drive as well. Even the headlight isn't half bad, much better than my 1200. Looks like I got a good'un.
 
I've only had one that had a slight leak and I caught it early.

Magura have been making brakes etc for years, I think they are very good at what they do. As for the slave being weedy, I'd be interested to know how big you think it should be, seems to do a good enough job to me. Cost 80 quid so change it every couple of years as a consumable if you are that worried, I'll take ya used ones :thumb
 
Changing the fluid every year regardlesss of mileage and no sitting when stationary with the clutch held in has worked for me. Clutch fluid change takes about 10 mins and must cost all of 50p worth of quality brake fluid.
The only reason I removed mine was to fit the stainless ADV clutch line. Glad I did as the seal in the gearbox behind the clutch slave was weeping.
I put a little cut in the gasket on reassembly which should give an early warning of any failure.
