:idea

spent some time there this summer past as per 'lost in europe' ride report. there's some advice there, but can't recommend it enough. As for Mr ChrisKelley's food and drink photo, you're on Croatian beer there mate - wrong country ;) The beer of choice for most Slovenes is Lasko. If y'all are going, mid July is good as you can take in the 'Lasko beer and flower festival' (no flowers to be seen when I was there!). Lasko is around £1/litre at it and is exceptionally good.

Like the sound of this trip. Maybe get Alpine/Dolomite passes en-route there or back? Not sure when they open but suspect should be OK. Went to the old Yugoslavia as a kid and been back a couple of times since for work but have long wished to go back and do some proper touring in that part of the world.

TP

Holiday timing should not be an issue for me.

As another taster - this photo taken last Friday - On the way to Mt. Mangrt, Slovenia's highest road....

Just back from working in Maribor, (lovely city) Lasko is around 1.50-2 euros 0.5 litre bottles food is superb and cheap. Might be up for this trip if I can get a passout.
Guy I was working with drives a 1200gs and knows mr Akroprovic personally, . It's pronounced "A....crappo...vich"

me and me m8 are just starting to think about next years tour....but early to mid july to allow a few alpine passes on way around andermatt etc etc and because this year weather in june was crap on the way down and for first few days in alps was a monsoon!

will look out for ideas here tho' and if we have any info can share it too as winter comes and serious planning/dreaming begins :)

I know wot your saying about the closed Passes at that time of year wos up the Stelveo in July still snow around. So if Im still in this job I can't do July so May would do me,but if it all goes Pear Shape I would be up for any time:D

Picked up info

Have collected a few brochures this morning an found a cracking hotel near Ljubbljana if you are interested, depending on time I might be able to attend some of this if it happens. Slovenia is beautiful and people very friendly, it has been the same through Serbia and Croatia too.

yep weather can be cr*p in the alps at anytime, but chances are that it will be warmer/drier later in the summer.....

am interested in this trip, either may or july (not in school term time tho')
especially if it includes some riding around andermatt outward or inward...the more passes the better, actually;)
b500 on the way down?
will watch the thread with interest:thumb

That's it then .. Go Do One In Slovenia/Croatia :D

How about Easter 2009? 4 days off work to get a 10/11 days trip :nenau

I'm planning a leisurely 2 week trip next year from Santander then riding & camping through the Pyrenees, doing as many passes as poss around Andermatt & return through Austria. I may pop in & join you for a few days if it works out.

Tom, I'm currently working out a route using a combination of The AA's camping guide to France, John Hermann's Motorcycle Journeys Though The Alps & this years Italia trip we did.

:)

This is the bear.
a fantastic place for biking, lots of gravel roads, manageable on most bikes. I would love to go back.
