Small number plate.

Ooh Ooh, let's have a pedants argument:D .

So it's OK to Cross and Straddle then. So your original statement was wrong.

Tell you what, letr's give up on this & let everyone read the Highway Code for themselves so they don't misunderstand & get nicked for overtakiing on white lines :p

MikeO;)

If you think my original post was purely about white lines, then I suggest you go back and reread it, it was more about the fact that people think things are illegal and they aren't.

The prime one being filtering, and undertaking, both which are perfectly legal. Done in the right way of course, if you drive like a ****, then you will get done, regardless if you are on the inside outside or behind or infront of other road users.

Talking of going back to read stuff. The point I was trying to make was something along the lines of "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" Not "my knowledge of the Highway Code is better than yours". We all break laws @ some point and we all bitch when we get caught

"Yes, lets all ride identical bikes, NEVER exceed the speed limit, never overtake on the inside (especially on motorways), "

Ok none of this is a Sin, except perhaps for riding the latest greatest sports bike with matching leathers and underwear.

never cross/straddle a solid white line etc, etc, etc.

We'll ignore this, otherwise the Highway code pendants will be after us again.

"I'm sure everyone out there has infringed on some law at some time or other. "

Really, so you think that most of the UK is guilty of a crime then, how important do you think this is?

"I was stopped on a perfectly sunny day, when the GS was a week old, and therefore completely legal & being run in so not speeding either.......why? 'cos lots of other bikers had killed themselves on that particular road."

But were you happy about that? It would piss the hell out of me, as there's been two car accidents at the traffic lights up the road, but I've yet to see the police stopping cars to tell them of the fact.

My standard responce is under what section of the Road traffic act are you stopping me, and 2 what grounds are you stopping me for.

If they don't have an answer, I bid them good day. Perhaps if more bikers were legal, no race cans no black visors, no illegal plates, then they'd think twice about wasting their and our time.

However, I'd hesistate to try this on a race canned/small exhausted/wearing a black visor bike.

Fwiw, I've only ever had coppers gawp at me as I ride off.

Nah, it was none of those reasons he stopped ya...

It is because you is black!!!

So no more bleating about being margianlised/singled out/prejudiced against/wronged simply cos you're a biker :D

(Well for all they know you might be - difficult to see if you're wearing a full-face lid!!)

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10mph or less.

Well actually, that says you can cross or straddle white line, in the right circumstances, proving my earlier point, that not all of what was listed was illegal, either at all, or all the time.

Also lets face it double white lines are there for the lowest common denominator, "do not overtake the tractor with your milkfloat here"

White lines ................ arang dang diddly dang da dang , arang dang diddly dang da dang :eek

Small numberplate

And breatheeeeeeeee !

Back on the original topic, I have a 7X5 plate fitted.
Never been stopped here or on the mainland.
I had to fit the legal one for its first MOT this year and it just looked so wrong. :blast

This country demands the biggest number plates in the world for bikes. Must be for short sighted speed cameras.

I've got a plate that's a bit smaller than the correct size and it MoT'd fine last Monday.:)

:thumb thumbs up for me on small plates, just has long as you take it on the chin if caught, but then been a badassmotherfunky i would think that.the gs having a large rear end makes the plate look even more distintive looking.

Jeez, made the end of the thread!

I usually apply hacksaw to normal plate to de-advert it. Normal numbers and less yellow. Never had a problem.

Re: The rest of the thread...

The Law is usually black & white, or grey.

Solid whites are usually black and white, ie. not an f'ing leg to stand on etc.

Filtering is grey ie. are you any good or riding like a t**t.

Unless you get a mix ie. filtering over a Ped X= black and white, tut, tut; filtering either side is a grey.

Know which is which or you may be arguing up the wrong tree.

Got a slightly smaller plate for 2 reasons. It's the right shape and has a blue EU/GB stripe down the left so it look correct.

1.
I'm running CAT only so I have room for 2 tool rolls, big plate stops access.:blast

2.
With any luck a speed camera will be fudged or at least need outside assistance deciphering the letter W as it looks very closed, just for those sneaky ones you don't see. AFAIK once an operator has had to make a 'judgement' on what the letters are it is not admissable as evidence.:augie

This could all be high octane bollocks! :blagblah
