I know I am leaving myself wide open here but has anyone got a 1200gs that smells of petrol when left in a garage?
Had an 1150gs this never did this dealer is confused no obvious leaks anywhere heres the worst bit....... strongish around petrol cap!!

Oh yeah, also, tickover is eratic around a 1000revs any others the same?

Hello

Yes had this twice now, once, when I first had the bike I had'nt closed the petrol cap fully, you know that last little click seems to make all the difference. The second time the QD connector on the LH fuel pipe on top of the fuel pump was leaking, I smeared a little vaseline around the connector then got it replaced at the next opportunity.

Regards Shep :bounce1

No smell of petrol with mine (except when I overfill it that is ) but the tickover does seem a little erratic and lumpy at times, it seems to 'die' or 'catch' for an instant every now and then but it's never actually stopped on me. ;)

Filler cap :thumb

That and pouring half a gallon over a Cavan forecourt  (Cheers again Trev!)

I have to say, everytime mine has smelt of petrol its been me not clicking the petrol cap shut.

Yes - mine always smells a bit of petrol in the garage. This subjevt has come up before - apparently there is a fuel tank breather somewhere on the left side of the bike. Have heard that it can come unfastened. Must admit I was a bit surprised since the American authorities are prissy about such things.

Lumpy? How lumpy is lumpy? No 2 cylinder is ever going to idle like a 4 cyl Jap bike. And mine certainly gets more lumpy as it gets towards the next service.

lumpy as it's worse than my dad's 02 R1150rt, which I do believe is supposed to be much less sophisicated, his bikes done 10K, mine's done around 5K

Sounds like it needs adjustment / service then. You need to decide whether it will wait till the 6k is done.

The bigger cylinder capacity / higher compression / less wear will all make it feel a bit lumpier than the 1150 all other things being equal. But shouldnt be very much different IMHO

Yup, my new 1200GS did whiff a little of petrol at 800km At its 1000km service the BMW dealer in Malaga (where I bought it) apparently sorted it. Apart from that all is fine.
