Thought the bike was loosing power yesterday but it turned out the front brake was on....noticed the brake lever was firmer than normal. Stopped and realised smoke was coming off some very hot discs/pads  Waited for the brakes to cool down and problem rectified itself with lever pressure back to normal.

Got 2 miles in to a 300 mile round trip to Cardiff today and the very same thing happened. I was worried the brakes could sieze so waited a few minutes before returning home.

Any thoughts on what is causing this....air in the brake lines?

Sounds very much like the handguard was fouling the front brake lever

Both sides hot?

Checked the brake lever is clear of the guard, if fitted?

That's what it sounds like to me:thumb2

Sticking calipers etc possibly

Could be the under tank abs unit though, but I've not heard of much trouble with them since the early bikes 04-05

Shep

Didn't notice if both sides were hot and it's cooled down now.

Brake level is touching the guard - do you think this is causing the brakes to over heat?

Is the brake light lit all the time?

Does the front wheel rotate freely when the engine is off?

Try adjusting the handguard sounds like that'll sort it
