smoking

Quitkeeper.... again ;- )

"I have been quit for 2 Months, 3 Days, 7 hours and 39 minutes (64 days).

I have saved £96.46 by not smoking 643 cigarettes.

My Quit Date: 20/04/2010 00:30"
-the same day that bloody oil rig blew up ;)

Still on the patches. Just. Chopping them into smaller and smaller bits.

Another week I reckon & I'll be clear if I survive this weekend away at Horizons Unlimited (& I WILL..!!). :augie. Smoking and talking b*ll*cks with other overlanders just felt right. But that was then...

Nice One Cogs...

I'm just a shade ahead you regarding timescale so, I'm sure we're both in the same place at the moment.
I reckon I'm over my own cravings but when I get a whiff it's driving me mad at the moment but, again, I'm not going back to it.

Maybe a cigar at a particular winter festival.

Keep going everyone. :thumb

4 weeks today

i have been commuting 100 miles a day for the past 2 weeks whilst i am on a course.....and i thought it was going to be real tough. First day nerves on a course where you dont know anyone else.....need a smoke after an hours journey....you all know what i mean.....but to my amazement, very few moments of craving and generally dont think about it.
48 weeks until Rukka suit:D
Keep going one and all

Quitkeeper rocks!

I have been quit for 2 Months, 4 Weeks, 1 Day, 10 hours and 44 minutes (90 days). I have saved £135.66 by not smoking 904 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Days, 3 hours and 20 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 20/04/2010 00:30

Finally came off the patches a week last Tuesday, 10 days early (I was fed up sticking the bloody things on  ), whilst at Robin Hood Bay.

Still get the odd craving but nothing irresistable.

Weight's stayed pretty much as was, which is a bonus :thumb2

Hey Guys good to see people still keeping the faith.:thumb2

I don't know how long its been now (probably about 3 months) but I've been off patches for a fortninght and not had any problems.
So far so good.:thumb2

As I stopped counting some time ago it feels like I've been a non smoker for a long time now and think less and less about it.
Well, it's helping me anyway.:D Each to their own.

Counting down the days til my quit date, August 16th is the day.
On annual camp with cadets before that and so set the date for when I return.
This time it's fir good with the thought of a Adv after 18 months 8-)
Shall stick a pic on the fridge and keep thinking of the new bike if I can keep of the weed.

Just seen this thread today. As a long term ex smoker who hit a toke at GOTC without an issue I'm amused at the response to Elefantman who seems to be trying to use a bit of inverse phsychology, only to be flamed by some of the collective.

Lighten up, some peeps find it hard but a sense of humour may be your best friend:thumb

I gave up 2 years ago (June 2008) after smoking for 22 years i guess... :blast

Without being boring, I could feel the effects with my circulation and would wake up with no feeling or movement in my hands and eventually it ended in my arms, which was quite scary at 38!

I went to NHS direct and only had to pay prescription charges for your own best aid process.

I thought the inhalator would work best for me, especially in the pub / beer garden smoking area.. Had a few weeks of taking the piss from my mates with my FREE plastic fag, and now 2 years on i have never looked back..

No fags, still no money - but hey i own a GS which i funded from the saved cash:bounce1 and even more, i can feel my hands and arms when i wake up.:)

So, basically, no fags = new bike and better health... :thumb2

Worth a thought eh? :mmmm

Congrats to everyone still going.....

In an earlier post I suggested that Richie had just what was needed for success, his own desire to stop. I now realise that there is something far more powerful out there and that is the desire to prove sanctimonious tw*ts like Elefantman wrong. Perhaps he is a plant from NHS Direct to ensure success of this type of venture, if not the government could save thousands by farming him out to quitlines so that others may be "inspired" by his teachings:rolleyes:

To all of you in the throes of stopping, keep going it is worth it and if you do have a moment of weakness then put it behind you and carry on.

I have been so inspired by your resolve that I am going to tackle my own particular bugbear and lose some weight....don't worry though I don't think my physique will never be less than Tosseresque!

This is all reassuring:

I'm trying to deal with a house sale, the Inland Revenue (HMRC as they are now), finding somewhere else to live and what to do with the cat, how to get better payed work; and WTF am I going to do with the 15 cubic meters of stuff that currently occupies my house, garage and shed without having to spend a month on Ebay to deal with it.

The worst is still the car, with an arm hanging outside of the drivers window, its' hand, its' fingers, holding the now jealously coveted KingSize WhatEver smelling like a good excuse to stop filtering through traffic and actually talk to someone and share three minutes of a common, which I now eschew, pleasure: Apparently. :blast

It is getting better but, the easy bit was the first month or so; now it's the jealousy of others who continue to puff away and wish I could have Just One and get away with it. :blagblah:blagblah:blagblah

I will not succumb.

It's well worth effort I'm sure.

Hey Guys hows it going?

I fell off the wagon (or whatever the term should be) about a week ago and was pretty down about it all the following day :(
It was the usual - few beers with mates, nice evening beer garden etc. you get the picture.

Well a couple of days ago I went to BMW for new tyres and I've been eyeing up the Rallye 3 suit for a while so I tried it while I was waiting. ;)

I'm sure you can guess the rest :D:D

To be honest I can't really afford it at the moment but if I didn't do it then I would never do it as something else will always come along like the usual bills.
So for once I put myself 1st and thought life's too short and this is from the money I would spend on cigarettes.

I did promise myself I'd do something like this if I stayed off the fags but I didn't think it would be this soon.

Well anyway it's done now and now I don't mind not smoking as I've got something for it.
Just need to work like a dog for the next little while to pay for it :augie

Not smoking

Nearly 11 weeks now. Doing 1.5 hours spinning sessions twice a week and swimming 600 meteres once a week......couldny have done that a while back.

Eyes still set on a new Rukka ArmaS next year.....but also waiting with baited breath on the 2 new triumph adventure bikes comnig out.

Anyway, still hanging in there!

Thought it worth bumping this thread back into the light of day given a few of you out there might be considering the big Quit this coming New Year.

I know from experience that NYE is the easiest time to promise and that January is the easiest month in which to fail as those around you fall by the wayside and remove the support you so dearly need!

I finally did the big Quit two weeks after last Easter, meaning today is my 251st day without a cigarette :D

The reason I can sound so geeky with certainty is due to a little tool called Quitkeeper, to which I was introduced by Gecko (of this parish) back on page 3 of this now huuuuge thread.

You can get it free from:

Post your intent here and get the crutch you need in the coming, craving filled weeks, from fellow GSers.

If Touratech could box it, you know they would.... :augie

5 months and about a week for me now, hardly miss them at all. (but that means nothing)

Good luck to all who decide to quit, find a motivator and stick at it.
