hallo, friends, I know that this topic has been talked about before, but it has been a while and I think newer members don't know about it. I mounted the "accelerator module", extended version ( http://www.sol2.be/Accelerator/English/ ) to both our F650GS's, and it is the best mod (just above the dunlop TR91's!) so far. It smoothed out the ride, normally I keep the revs no lower than 3k, but now 1,5k is no problem, and without the rattle of the chain against the rear fork. Roundabouts can be done 1 gear higher, pulling away from a corner is a joy, more power low down, less vibes overall, faster overtaking etc etc. The bandwidth of the engine is wider, with less strain on hard acceleration, it now feels like an electric engine. Treat yourselves to one of these, best bang for buck ever. enjoy !!:JB

If you want real "smooth throttle response joy" you should take your 650 and swap it for a KTM 990 for a while ... you will really appreciate the smooth throttle then!

Edit: I have an "accelerator on my 800GS ... fantastic improvement as you say!

Hi, Ducks, yes, V-twins are by themselves smooth. I had an 800 V suzuki, and liked it very much, also torque-wise. Could easely cruise in 5th doing 30kms/h. But my parallel-twin is getting there now, especially while the 650 already is a bit sweeter than the F800, so am a happy chappy!

I didn't actually mean that you would compare the KTM favourably ... it's throttle response is absolutely appalling! The 990 is a lovely bike; lots of power, good suspension (especially the front compared to my 800). I almost fell in love, I was thinking maybe I should get rid of the GS and get a KTM, and then I fell out of love rapidly.

At low cruising revs it hunts like a big two stroke, I tried using about a thousand more revs everywhere compared to what I would use on the GS, it was better, I didn't use less than 3,000 rpm. After a while it still got to me, you couldn't hold a steady throttle without thinking about it and it was inconsistent every time you opened the throttle, after a while I couldn't wait to give it back. If you rode it like it was stolen, and were always on it it would probably be great, but as it is it's just a terrible waste of an otherwise really good bike (ignoring the insane maintenence, and a few other problems).

Having read all the stuff on the Accelerator Module in the 1200 section, I'm interested in one, as I find the throttle on my F650GS twin requires a steady hand to avoid jerkiness... so, will it smooth out the change from closed throttle to open throttle, and make my pillion's ride smoother?

Also, I wonder, presumably fitting one would void the BMW warranty, but what does it do to emissions for the MoT test? And would you have to remove it (OK, five minutes...) before a service, to avoid complications when the dealer connects the bike up to a diagnostic computer, and detects a faulty Inlet Air Temperature sensor?

Like a lot of people with this modification I am very happy with it. I also have a unifilter and a leo Vince carbon end can, but the result is really smooth throttle response and what appears to be better low end power ... lovely!

I have the simpler accelerator module without the external temperature sensor so it just plugs in under the faux tank cover. It would only take five minutes to remove. I left it on for my 30,000 km service and it was no problem at all, I don't think the computer knows that anything different is going on.

This looks really great and compliments to the chef:thumb2

Without wanting to pi$$ on anybodies parade.....why isnt this done at BMW manufacturing stage if it is so good? Dont get me wrong Im really tempted to get one of these but cant understand why it hasnt been adopted by BMW in the first place:nenau

wow, ducks, I really misjudged your comment there... your story can be interpreted 2 ways, and not having ridden KTM990, I assumed you meant V-twins are smooth... well, some manufacturers seem to be able to ruin that quality , I am still happier with my 650 now!

Emissions?

Emissions?

+1 If BMW (and KTM) could just give you a fuel map that worked I bet they would. to be fair to BMW they have some of the best and most economical fule maps on bikes. It's probably an off shoot of all the car fuel mapping they must have to do.

If anyone fits one to the 650 twin can they take some pics of how its done?
Thinking of getting one for mine and as I know very little about bikes I could do with some pics :thumb2

It really couldn't be any easier you just remove the battery cover/faux tank (6 screws) locate the right connector ... explained very well on the instructions, plug in the module and put the cover back on ... about 5 minutes if you are careful!

brill

I folks, fitted one of these Saturday, five mins tops on my f650gs twin.
I just got to say its made a great bike into a f in superb bike imho.
Loads of torque,a lot less gear changing and smooth acceleration.

i am impressed:thumb:thumb:thumb

Just ordered one too, the promise of more torque and a smoother throttle is enough to tempt me!

I'll report back after it's fitted.

The extended version fits perfect. I have the sensor to the right of the headlight where it gets clean (or at least not heated) air.

These bikes are renowned for their economy. Has anyone reported back on how this is affected? I'm assuming that it richens things up a bit, and that consumption will go up.
