So how reliable is the 1200 really?

That's NOT the latest 2010 version? Why?
It's just one of the bikes in our garage and we neither needed nor wanted a new one. It's an '08 as my reading here and elsewhere told me that most of the issues were resolved with that model.

disgusting reliability:rob :D

(And yes, this thread is now even older!)

At 02:00 this morning, nearly a year after I posted the question that started this thread, I pulled into the drive with this on the trailer:

We still haven't ridden one but I guess we'll be remedying that very shortly!

I've been looking at it this morning trying to figure out whether it needs black or silver H&B engine bars and I think I'm going to go with black. I also came to the conclusion that if engine bar colour is all I have to consider this morning there's not a lot wrong with our world.

Let the Farkle Fest begin :).

Once you've done your farkling get yerselves out here again. If you're still planning the trip you mentioned before I might even join you for the Turkey bit.

It is still planned but not until next year at the earliest unfortunately as we're struggling to juggle work and other commitments. It'll be good to see you again.

Keeping the trip diary on here was an excellent idea except I keep looking at it and wanting to go again RIGHT NOW but the coffers need replenishing first.

Yep, I think we did.

I think we rather like it. We've done a lot fewer miles than we planned as we were on our way to Scotland until the weather forced a change of plan then a chunk of flint in our rear tyre and an apparent lack of availability of a replacement tyre near Lincoln forced a recovery home on Monday.

There are a couple of things I don't like - self-cancelling indicators which I guess I'm going to have to put up with and the saddle which would have been rebuilt today but the bloke who does our seats has no electricity.

I'm disappointed with the range which was around 170-180 to the tank but I like the way the bike handles and we really enjoyed riding it.

I was quite surprised to find that I can pretty much flat foot it and I wonder whether the GSA I sat on in Coopers in Tunbridge Wells really was on its lowest setting. I guess if the salesman could have been bothered to get up from his chair and check I might have had better information and he may have made a sale. I think I look reasonably normal but perhaps I don't fit a salesman's perception of what a BMW-buyer looks like as that may explain the crap service we've experienced in both BMW dealers we've been in.

I have had 2 1150s 1 rt and a GS 2 1200 Gs std and a GSA 1200 mostly minor stuff not the doom and gloom you will read on the forum. If you take care of the finish don't treat them like a high revvin' Jap and be prepared to accept that BMWs are DIFFERENT. I still would buy another no problem.:thumb2
