So my new gs is dangerous

Not trying to be funny here, but that screw is pretty obvious, open the top box and it's there looking back at you from the vent.

surely you would spot it and go "hmmmm, looks pointy, that might scratch something", it hardly makes the top box unfit for purpose.

Not that obvious. I'm not a fan of damaging things just to prove a point to BMW. :)

fair point fluff......

just seems a shame to accept damage to a nice helmet, caused by a silly miskake by a big company, who would be better off accepting humble pie and sorting, after all its not as if its out of the way to assume you would use the box for a helmet....

p.s.i hate the sueing culture but sometimes...a bit of give n take applies

I've got the same type adventure top box on mine, and I have to disagree, it's plain enough, and pointy things scratch :)

As for dropping it, seriously, they are easy to drop, I forgot to drop mine in gear when parking up and it rolled off the sidestand (on no discernible gradient), once a low speed low side on gravel and once was pure comedy with my non-existent off road ability being overwhelmed by my desire to "have a bash".

OMG i,m in tears...the thought your in despair for being forced to read this:pullface

In the 1200 section, there have been many such threads, hence his despair.

There was one last year about the battery going flat while the bike was parked up, could it be caused by the ABS.

I've not been here long, but long enough to know the "hexhead" section, at times, is it's own worse enemy.

Don't, they have won then :D The OP must be an 1150 infiltrator trying to mess with your karma :D:D:D

What's an 1150 :D 1200gsa is my first road bike I've now got it upto 1200 miles after riding 315 miles round trip to witby for some lunch. Now off to Scotland tomorrow but where to go.

It's annoying that I've just spent about 15k in total and already my helmet is damaged all because a pointy BOLT seemed like a good idea at BMW.

All the others are flush with the nut :clap why just that one?

You wait until the water cooled starts selling in numbers:eek: We'll become members of the luddite section and can start being as smug as 11** owners:D

Dangerous!!!

"I won't be dropping it""!!, what planet are you living on? come to that why have you got such a nasty dangerous thing like a motor bike?. You do not have to do the Dakkar to do this wait till you've pulled up at the lights, put your foot down and oh help!, there's nothing there as the camber has dropped away and you've gone!. We have all done it so face up to real life shit happens . TO EVERY one, so to come on to a site like this where many of us have ridden half way around the world and have had far worse prangs than that caused by a nasty sharp bolt OOOH! ducky. I suggest you take up another hobby, stamp collecting?.
Sob, sob ooooh such a bitch!

Someone else who thinks its ok to buy something brand new but it damages your helmet.

WHY HAVE THEY FITTED ONE POINTY BOLT AND ALL THE REST NICE AND FLUSH.???????????? Answer the question

What I'm saying is always think positive as previously mentioned. I WON'T FALL OFF. THINKING POSITIVE.

AND AS FOR YOUR STAMP COLLECTING YOU CAN LICK THE QUEENS REAR. I've done motocross, trials, atv, jet skis I'm quite aware of the dangers and scrapes that occur, but I've never bought a KTM with fault from the off and everyone slates them.

Original post was its damaged my lid anyone else had this trouble?

That's it, I despair, I'm getting a frigging 1150. This frigging thread takes the biscuit...........

Hi, I was riding my new 1200gs water cooled through the desert and forgot to take some drinking water. I drained off some of the water to drink, it was well tasty and sugary. My bikes seized up and I've been in hospital having my stomach pumped. Surely BMW should put a sticker somewhere saying don't drink the water!:hide

Okay. Show us a picture of your damaged crash helmet. I'll bet it's nowhere near the damage to that done to all those masculine machines you've bounced across the countryside.

PS. You'll drop it before April. :P

The nut isn't pointy, the inner part of the valve is pointy. You know what the whole contraption is for don't you?

When you come back from Scotland, be sure to post about the pitted finish on the outside too.

surely this cant be true.....

one would assume the boxer engine was at boiling point rendering the water safe to drink:D

Told me it was for equalising air pressures and being able to breath in their not human breath but circulation air.

Oh I know there slightly pitted already I expect that, that's what happens to bare metal, gets wd40 before I go out to help it a little.

I think some people think I'm being fussy over this pointy BOLT/VALVE whatever you want to call it. As I have already said I can fix it not a problem at all. Why would they put guards, protectors, covers on where required and leave a point bit in a pannier which is going to house things? Seems really stupid idea to me. But it doesn't seem an issue to alot of you.

If you bought a BMW car and sat in it as the salesman hands it over to you and whilst doing so a pointy bolt rips your coat would you say to the salesman "it's ok ill go to halfords and file it down. IM SURE YOU WOULD:comfort
