Soft southern shandy drinkers…. Camping Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February 2025

Time to start a proper list of who is coming.

I’ll start:

Wapping, arriving Friday, departing Sunday. Tent or motorhome / car or motorbike, still not decided. If motorhome / car, I can bring BBQ kit, just like last time. If by motorhome, I’d like an electrical hook-up.

========

Once we have a fairly accurate list, I am happy to contact the site owner to fix things up.

Pukmeister, arriving Friday, departing Sunday. Most likely T5 camper van requiring mains hookup. Failing that it’s arriving by GSA and a tent.

If the weather cooperates just a little bit I’m going to jump on the bike and ride down to camp for two nights and say hello.
Be great way to start 2025.
I’ve been to Lymington before - and had some serious beer nights in town but only ever arrived by yacht !

Yep, confirmed. Bike and tent unless very icy in which case the car and tent. Saturday definitely, Friday very likely

Liaising with Don re SA braai accompaniments and of course Old Brown Sherry to warm the cockles.

Toddy - arriving Friday, leaving Sunday. Ambition to bike it and camp but if the weather turns a bit Pete Tong, then I might just break into Wapping’s palatial motorhome and sleep in the garage!

Also hoping to have a munch on Adventure Don’s sausages at some point over the weekend ;) :D

In

Orinoco on Friday and Saturday nights, the mighty Himalayan and a tent if weather is tepid, otherwise car and tent, maybe even just the car if a bit cooler/wetter/windier.

Can bring Christmas Advocaat and sherry:D

By Christ, there’s some soft shandy drinkers in the south. Not one bivvy bag ‘n home made stove ‘n hedgehog in pocket to be seen :D

Confirmed six softies so far are:

Wapping - Motorhome and hook-up (probably) - BBQ / oven / fridge / four ring hob / air fryer / sink / toaster / kettle / central heating / Duvalay / shower / WC / dancing girls (you may look, but you can’t touch)
Pukmeister - T5 and hook-up (probably)
The Other PaulG - Tent
Toddmeister - Tent (Wapping can look out of his four wheeled palace onto a cruel frost, to see a poor man gathering winter fuel and say….. feck him!)
Bumble-Bee - Tent
Orinoco - Tent

Await confirmation from the others.

I’ll do my best to arrange it with the site so that the tents are as close as possible to the electrical hook-up’s, so as to keep us all together * . The sooner I can know from anyone else that they are coming and / or whether they would like (if possible) power, the better.

* That at least is what I’ll tell you. The reality is I’ll demand that they are as far away as humanly possible. “I’m really sorry guys, I really tried. Still, it’s only two nights and the bins really aren’t that full. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I do believe that’s my kettle boiling and I need to set the night time central heating”

:beerjug:

All joking apart, I’m happy to run the kettle, cook bacon or whatever for breakfast sandwiches etc etc. If it’s not lashing down or a howling gale, most of this I can do outside. I can bring with me enough bread, bacon, butter, sausages, red and brown sauces, milk, sugar, tea and coffee for us all, I’m sure. Just let me know the numbers, please. Bring your own plates, mugs and favourite tea spoons.

PS Toddmeister can feck off with his demands of kedgeree and devilled kidneys.

I can’t remember. Did we book a table / area at the pub or just take pot luck and found somewhere to sit for beers and food?

What was the pub called?

'twas the Chequers. http://www.chequersinnlymington.com/

I cannot remember whether we booked, either. It's a nice blend to braai one night, then do the pub on the other, not sure which is the easiest way round. Saturday's likely to be the bigger crowd. Also Saturday might give us a better chance of setting up a BBQ in daylight??

But... on Friday people will arrive at all times, so booking a specific time for a table is tricky.... so many decisions!

OK, thanks.

I suggest pot luck with the pub on Friday and BBQ on Saturday,
