Gentlemen - all this talk of the best way to heat your tent in winter is merely reinforcing the premise put forward by Richard in the title of the thread.

If we are to impress the Northern Tossers that frequent these pages, may I suggest a shift in emphasis to “If it’s below freezing I might need to keep me vest on”! ;)
Star jumps before bed and a hot water bottle.

List of runners and riders, in no particular order:

1. Wapping - car and tent or motorhome - Electric if possible - BBQ x2

2. Pukmeister - camper van - Electric if possible???

3. Santa-2512 - tent?

4. Orinoco - ???

5. cookie - ???

6. twizzle - camping or camper van - Electric if possible???

7. Toddmeister - ???

8. NeilDD - camper van - Electric if possible??? - BBQ

9. adventuredon - ???

10. The Other PaulG - camping

11. DJ123 - car and camping - Electric if possible

If we can get 12 or more, super.

Note:

A. Appologies if I have missed someone. Sing up, please.

B. I have guessed that those with a camper van would like electricity if possible.

C. Those that haven’t said (or, more likely, I just didn’t read properly) what they hope to arrive in / sleep in, please let me know.

D. I have an electric BBQ and / or a gas one. Neil has kindly volunteered another gas BBQ. Any more?

E. If we are to have a fire, it requires something to burn on it, usually wood. What to do about that, I wonder?

In the meantime, I’ll go back to the site and say it looks like a go’er for, say half a dozen at the moment, with details to follow etc etc etc

I’ll see if I can contact the pub and make a reservation (with nose bag) for a dozen, at say 18:30 if that suits everyone???

Richard

I’m 99% I’ll be in the van - I have tonnes of seasoned firewood..I’ll bring enough for two nights….

I do not have a gas bbq though….

I have a Gas bbq, plus an electric ninja woodfire grille.

I’ll see if there is any scrap pallet wood available at work or similar over the next few weeks for a fire pit. I also have a small above ground portable fire pit/log burner if on-ground isn’t allowed.

If anyone is willing to bring their own fire wood, you can buy it bagged from Amazon. Us Southerners literally have money to burn. :D

…….My “Fooing” portable countertop ice cube maker might be overkill just for my evening nightcap (bloody fridge engineers !). Every good Motorhome/Caravan owner should invest in one they really are a fucking game changer in summer for £80.

If you look at the website they state that they have bags of logs available at reception.
@Wapping yes to electric.
I can stop off at Costco on the way down.

Also they have chalet's and static caravans available to rent

I may be around and if so I’ll be in a van but I’ll need to confirm closer to the day.

There’s 2 pubs in walking distance, the best of which is the chequers and the other is the Gun at Keyhaven.

Both nice places but a more traditional local atmosphere at the chequers and it’s closer.

======

Edit: Pub highlighted only.

I’ll have electric if available please Richard but it’s no biggie if supply is limited (I can survive a few days on 12v plus solar.)

I have contacted Sophie (we are on first name terms) giving her the rough details of what the 11 or so of us might well want.

As soon as I have her news, I’ll ping it up here.

Hi, was at the museum last week great spot but you need to allow a good few hours to get round it to do it justice, I didn't realise how big it was & only had a couple of hours definitely not enough, also worth noting the ticket lasts for a year so my plan is to return next year to complete.
I camped at The Golden Swan, Walcot. SN9 5NN. Nothing fancy but good pub with a flat field at the back £10 for the night if anyone needs a pit stop on the way down..
Cheers
SiY.

Possibly appropriate, Monkey World is just up the road …

My intention is to come on the bike and and camp in a tent. I will definitely not be needing my big coat and I may even wear underpants!

(the above is for the benefit of Doc and his northern mates - most likely scenario is below)

If it's a tad parky or wet, I will come in the panel van and have a miserable cold night's sleep in the back of it! :D
