Soft Southern Shandy Drinkers - Take Two - 06/07/08 February 2026

I'm in. BBQ discussion closer to the time with numbers for the BBQ and wood etc. I am not ordering sausage for anyone Unless you're a hard core braai fan...Can we also sort out better catering to stop the over catering...?
Rather too much than too little, and I didn't hear anyone saying is there any more ;)

sort out…. catering….

Don, makes a good point.

It should be reasonably straightforward, if we all just stop and think, say two weeks ahead of the event.

I can bring, BBQ’s (gas and coals), tables, frying pan(s), kettle, BBQ cooking implements, washing-up kit, and the breakfast stuff ie: tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bacon, sausages, sauces, butter, rolls / bread.

We will maybe need to assume:

A. No catering on Friday evening, as we can hopefully eat in the pub. Someone to make the booking. We can agree who, the number to book for and at what time. That should be straightforward. We just get the total bill and divide the total sum equally between us.

B. Breakfast on the Saturday morning. I’m happy to bring all the breakfast stuff, if people tell me what they’d like. For example, if there is eight of us and five of us would like bacon rolls and three of us sausages in a roll, then I’ll bring what’s needed. Cost? I’ll just buy it all and divide the sum by eight. That is simple.

C. BBQ proper on Saturday night. Again, let’s just be sensible. I like the brai sausage, so that’s one person. Don, does too. That’s two. No more takers? Then (assuming eight) we just need to think about the other six. Something alongside the meat? OK, let’s agree what. If say, two or three people between them buy the Saturday night stuff, then pool the amount into one and divide by eight, that should be easy, too.

In reality it’s no different than catering for an event at home; we just need to be a bit smart about it. It doesn’t need to be military grade organisation. Only enough to make it work, without a load of waste.

D. On the Sunday (departure day) I’d have breakfast in the pub, assuming it’s available or just cater for myself.

E. At the end of the event we add together the sums in B and C and each cough up our debt. This can be done once we get home, via PayPal or bank transfer.

F. If someone wants to DIY, that’s fine. It simply goes down from eight to seven.

The biggest unknown is the weather. Again, let’s just be sensible. If it’s just cold and dark, that’s fine. If it is hammering down with rain (or looking very likely to) then an outdoor BBQ ain’t going to be too much fun; let’s go to the pub or whatever. Snow? We can take a view on.

I can do the pub meal ordering

has anyone seen if they can accommodate us on those dates ?

As I am originally from the Northern Wastelands and am therefore hard as nails - I have booked a Shepherd’s Hut ;) :D

Gill says there are 3 left if any of you other hard as nails feckers would like some creature comforts!

So now the big question is: Given that it is on the cusp of Spring will Wappers be bringing the summer or winter Porsche?

Thank you.

Maybe make a provisional booking for say, 10 to 12 to be confirmed in January, at say 19:00. If you call them, maybe mention that there’ll be some campers and probably some looking for breakfast on Sunday, too.

Toddmeister has set the ball rolling on the huts.

2nd Shepards hut gone

Provisional booking made for 10 people to eat 19:00 on the 6/2/26 ( we will need to confirm numbers nearer the date )

Shepards huts come with Breakfast included, so i would suggest people who want breakfasts on either Saturday / Sunday - confirm on Friday night on arrival (as before)

You big girl!

But you’ll be a bit cramped as I believe your tent was easily 50% bigger than one of those Shepherd’s Huts! :D

……and thank you for making the reservation for dinner (y)

Yes the tent is way bigger, the bed in the shepards hut was small even for my diminutive standards :D

Anyone from the local area keen to sort a medium length ride, say just below warp speed 1 and above chug a long pace? Say leaving camp around 10 and back by 3 so we can be in the pub, sorted for the rugby? Failing that, I can set up a route but can't guarantee best roads!

If anyone who is coming for the first time is intending to camp, I'd strongly recommend you bring extra-sturdy tent pegs. The ground drains so well because it has a very high flint content....

Last time I was there Ianak very kindly lent me some 'nails' which went in a treat and saved my tent from ending up in the next field. :ROFLMAO:

An end of year bump for this extravaganza.
